UPDATE Re:: Would you let your DC go to a birthday party if....
Update: I don't understand DH's logic either. Doesn't make sense to me. I know it has nothing to do with gifts. The only thing I could think of is him feeling awkward if people ask why we aren't having a party. A-I don't think ppl will ask and B-We are doing a small family party. I thought his whole thinking was weird and you all just confirmed it :) DC will be going to the next party for sure. THANKS!

Re: Would you let your DC go to a birthday party if....
I would certainly take my DC to a party even if I weren't planning on hosting one for him. We get tons of invites and go to most. DC really enjoys them and it gives me a chance to see who his friends are and how he interacts socially. I also get to meet other moms.

Would you let your DC go to a birthday party if....
Of course. Dd has friends that come to her parties or other parties but the kid doesn't have their own party.

I have not once had a friends bday party for DD and she's 5. Why would I deny her going to her friend's parties? Just because we chose not to have parties for her doesn't mean she shouldn't celebrate with her friends who choose to have parties. I am sorry but your DH's logic makes no sense.

Would you let your DC go to a birthday party if....
agree with everybody--- no reason not to let her go to other parties! they're fun for the kids, and its a nice chance to get to know some of the other parents, and see how your kid interacts with the other kids and all that... we just had a 5th birthday party for our son- i invited his whole class bc its only 10 kids and the party price included up to a certain number of kids anyway.... BUT i definitely don't expect for his classmates to have parties, or to invite him if they do. everybody celebrates how they want to, its no big deal. i would take her to the parties- its a chance for her to have fun with the other kids outside of school or dance class or whereever...

...you weren't having a party for them? DC keeps getting invitations to parties from school. So far we haven't gone to any because DH feels that since we aren't having a party that DC shouldn't go. I don't agree plus I think it's important for kids to play outside of school and it would be nice to meet some other parents. What do you think???
I'm trying to understand. Is your DH's logic because you guys would be buying a gift for each child that your child attends their party -- and then, when your child doesn't have their own party, they won't get those gifts back in return?? I just know a lot of people think along the lines of reciprocation. I, personally, do not but I know how some men are! LOL! And some women are like that too. EX-MIL is like that.
Just curious -- because I don't understand WHY he would care otherwise.

Re: Would you let your DC go to a birthday party if....
Absolutely!
DS has never had a party with friends from school, mostly because his birthday is usually the second day of school, and I didn't want to be that parent who sends home invites on the second day
He goes to which ever parties we can make it to through out the year.

Adding to the chorus -- I've never had a kid birthday party for my son (only family get togethers), and he's never missed a bday party he was invited to!

I don't have kid parties just so my own kid gets invited to others...we have them to celebrate with my kid's friends and family...I never think twice about who invites us to parties when we make our party list. Go to the parties and have fun.

Re: Would you let your DC go to a birthday party if....
I think that's silly. Up until this year we didn't have friend parties for my DD, just family parties, but we didn't keep her from going to friend parties she was invited to. I don't think one has anything to do with the other. Your DC was invited because a friend wants her to be there to celebrate, not because they are expecting her to invite them to a party too. I would let your DC go and have fun with her friends.

Of course. We try and go to every party we are invited to. Dd loves parties. To date we have only had back yard parties for her with family and close friends but we would never stop her from going to a bday party. Kids are social.

Re: Would you let your DC go to a birthday party if....
I guess I really don't see a reason not to let them go to a party if you aren't having one... Does he think parents are going to make a checklist and watch for a return invitation within a 12 month period for each kid invited? I don't mean to sound rude but I am just trying to understand his logic.

Hah not for nuthin that is the craziest thing I've heard. Of course I would still go to parties!
And tbh, kind of mean to not let her go to any parties.
