Re: Hannukah question for the Jewish ladies

Hi! I'm surrounded by Catholic people so please forgive the stupidity of this question. We have a Jewish teacher this year - should I be giving her holiday gift during this week instead of right before school break? Is it weird to give out a holiday present after Hannukah is over for her? Also, do I say Happy Hannukah at any day this week or is there one day when it is acknowledged - as in, if I email her today should I say Happy Hannukah? Would that be right? I'm sorry for the silly questions, I truly don't know and don't want to miss recognizing the holiday! THanks!
Hanukkah is 8 days long, so you can say happy Hanukkah anytime between now and Saturday. I think it would be nice to give her her gift now, but I don't think she would be offended if you gave it later in the month. Giving it now shows her you acknowledge her holiday and that her holiday is not Christmas. I am sure she is use to getting her gifts right before the break. I don't think you questions are silly.

Re: Hannukah question for the Jewish ladies
I think it's fine to wait to give the gift before winter break when most kids give out their gifts to all the teachers.
My 4 year old goes to a Jewish preschool so I will be giving the teachers their gifts at the class Hanukkah show (which happens to be later today). For my 6 year old who's in public school I'll give out the teacher's gifts the last week of school before the break... bus driver, teachers, speech teacher, etc. I don't know what everyone celebrates, but it's pretty much when they all get their holiday gifts. It's really a thank you, happy holiday's, enjoy your break from the class, Happy New Year's all in one.

Re: Hannukah question for the Jewish ladies
We gave out our Hanukkah presents on Tuesday. I am a class mom, and my daughter's teacher baked cookies for me. The card said happy hanukkah because she knows I am Jewish. I wrote merry Christmas to her. My daughter's speech teacher is Jewish and I wrote happy hanukkah to her.

Re: Hannukah question for the Jewish ladies
I think it's sweet that you want to give your teacher a gift! It's nice to get presents during the actual holiday but giving just before winter break is fine too.
Happy Hanukkah is fine to say. A lot of my students don't know I'm Jewish, so I get Merry Christmas too - and it's fine. I appreciate the sentiment. It's coming from a good place.

Re: Hannukah question for the Jewish ladies
I think since you know she's Jewish, and you already have the gift, it would be appreciated (not expected) if you gave it to her some time this week.
Only one person I give to @ work is Jewish - normally I gift boxes of homemade cookies. But I haven't baked yet since Hanukah is early this year So he got a bottle of wine .........AND he'll get cookies

Hannukah question for the Jewish ladies
I think before break is fine. I work at a Jewish school and still get most of the gifts from my students right before break even though Hanukkah is over at that point.
