sympathy gift basket or donation
A somewhat close co-worker's father just passed away
A general email went out to our department saying donations can be made to a foundation in memory of her father.
I know she is wine lover, and was thinking of sending her a gift basket instead. Is that inappropriate; should i stick to a donation?

I would do the donation. To be honest I equate sending a basket of wine with a happy occasion ...maybe I am wrong but that would be my first thought.
