Becoming a new cellphone customer
I am just wondering does any company offer where you just sign up for a 2 year contact and get say a iPhone for $200?
my dad just went to best buy and they told him At&T no longer offers that that basically you lease you phone or you have to pay out of pocket for the whole price.
my dad is pretty sure everyone is doing this and I find these ridiculous. so basically if I lease the phone I end up paying almost the price of the phone but I have to turn it in at the end? do I still have to sign a contact or is that not around anymore either.

I don't know if any companies still offer the "old" plan, but for us (we have Verizon and just switched all of our phones to the "new" type of plan) it came out to almost the same per month. On Verizon, they lower the cost of your monthly service when you lease the phone, so it was about $5 difference per month (I think $5 cheaper, but could be $5 more - didn't really make a difference to me). You pay off the phone over 2 years (iPhone 6s is about $27 per month, give or take a few dollars). If you still keep that phone after it is paid off, your monthly payment goes down - you do not have to turn the phone in after it is paid off. There is no contract for this type of plan.

wow I find this completely ridiculous everything keeps just costing more and more money! the plan prices aren't even that great most companies offer. I cant believe it cost more NOW to have a cellphone then it did years ago when technology wasn't as advanced!

Forgot to add - when we switched over, Target had a deal to get a $100 Target gift card with each new phone, so you might want to look for a deal like that. I definitely made it a little less painful

Re: Becoming a new cellphone customer
thanks my dad was trying to get my mom a new phone for xmas and I'm just surprised now you basically have to buy the phone for full retail.
with At&T we can still do a 2 year plan but we have to pay them $15 a month for being under contract which is so dumb its their way to force you to have to pay retail for the phone anyway. I told my dad to try to call them and tell them that he will leave them if they make him pay the $15 a month because at this point there is no incentive at all to stick with AT&T or any company for that matter. looks like I will always be going with the company who has the best prices!!

The $15 is the "added" to the monthly service, or when you do the no contract plan they take the $15 off the monthly service fee - I think they are all pretty much the same now

From what i understand, this is how all companies are doing it now. Gone are the days of 2 years contracts and $100 smartphone and I believe no more upgrades either. My plan is to keep my current phone as long as I can so I don't have to deal with this for awhile!

Yes - it stinks to be paying a monthly phone payment but, the bill is lower so it offsets the extra phone cost.

Re: Becoming a new cellphone customer
We switched over to AT&T last month during a promotion. I turned in my old iphone 4s and received a $200 credit on my account, along with a $200 credit for porting both mine and my DH's phone numbers. I believe the promotion is still going on.
