How to Properly Light a Menorah?
So, I'm not Jewish, but we have a menorah at work and I'm the one lighting it. It's electric so all I have to do is screw in the bulb, but I have no idea what the order is or if the middle one is supposed to be lit the entire time... or last? And when? Should I put it on now or on Monday, the 6th? Help!
ETA: I tried to google but the websites are SUPER in depth. Like why oil menorahs are better than electric ones and I'm just having a hard time finding a simple guide.

the tallest candle (usually the middle) is the candle that is always on. then the other 8 candles get lit from right to left. so you turn on the candle light that is furthest right first and by the 8th night the very last one on the left is lit. the middle/tallest one (shamas/helper candle) is always on. each night one, two, three, etc. extra candles are lit depending on the night of the holiday! HTH
ETA: so to clarify what I meant... you fill the menorah with the candles right to left, but light the candles from left to right...

You almost made me have a heart attack so I had to look It up. I was taught you always light the NEW candle first.
You always light the NEW candle first. So you LIGHT from left to right.
So, light 1 the first night. (and Sham always)
Light 2 THEN 1
Light 3, then 2, then 1.
8-7-6-5-SH-4-3-2-1

sorry i didnt clarify correctly. yes the newest candle first. I just meant dont put the candles in from the left, i hate when people reverse their menorahs. plus i thought you said yours was electric bulbs so i dont know if those stay on all the time or what. so i figured you just add a bulb on each night. we use real candles that change every night so its easier.

Thank you!!! So I'll start December 6th then. It is electric but we just unscrew the bulbs a little bit until they're off and then screw them back in on the right days. I don't know why this is giving me such anxiety!

Momma, yes. For the electric just light the new one. Leave all the other on as you progress.
Night one is the middle (tall) light AND the one on the right. Then just keep lighting the next one in line.
