For those mommies that have potty trained, what's ur best advise for it? I'm doing it now and it's way harder than I thought!

Re: Potty Training

We followed the oh crap potty training book (it's basically a modified 3-day method) and it worked great. The biggest things for us were:

-a small potty where dd could go completely on her own
-going "commando" days 2 and 3
-clearing our calendar for 3 days

We failed the first time, and then followed the book/advice above and I went really really well.

Good luck!

Re: Potty Training

My best advice is to talk it up a lot before you plan on doing it. I bought by dd sofia the first undies and talked about how awesome it is to be a big kid. The first time she went we were a little too late and she only got a little in. I made such a big deal about how awesome she did. She was so proud. I think that made it easier for the rest of the day.

Took a while for us. Tried 3 day method and were good for a few days bit she totally regressed and we were back to diapers. After a while they just get it. My best advice is try not to get to stressed over it. We did a potty chart and when she went on the potty she got a star and for accidents she got a sad face lol (not sure if this would work for every kid) and when had 3 days with no accidents we went to the bakery for a cupcake. DD will be 3 next week and has been fully potty trained since July

Potty Training

This is take 2 for us. Day 1 today she was bare butted most of the day. We had friends over for dinner so we put underwear on her for that part of the day. She had 1.5 accidents. Tomorrow we plan to do the same. We have a potty in the den where all her stuff is and we also has the insert in the potty. Today we informed her pull ups are all gone except for naps and made a big deal of letting her choose her underwear.

I made a potty chart, but I think waiting until she was ready was really the key. She was 3 years 3 months.

Potty Training

I let her decide when she was ready. We bought a potty right before she turned 2. She was really good for one day, then it wasnt till 6 mos later that she decided she wanted to actually go on the potty. She started out just doing it in the morning.

Then all of a sudden she just told me every time. With pee anyway.

Poop took a little longer.

Re: Potty Training

Got rid of diapers, bought pretty undies (if you have a DD). Got a little potty with a detachable piece for our regular toilet. Told her over and over that we dont pee pee or poopie in our undies, we go in the potty. Asked her every couple of minutes if she had to go.

And I'm a firm believer in 'they'll do it when they're ready'. My DD was trained on the later side (3'ish). But, she just wasn't ready before.

We tried to make her really excited about. We talked about how big girls go on the potty, and we took her shopping and let her pick out her underwear. She got princesses and she was so excited about them that she got upset if she wet them and had to take them off. Also, praise, praise, praise, to make her feel really proud. She was going around telling everyone she met that she didn't need diapers any more. I took my time with it though. When I first started trying, she wasn't really getting it even though she seemed interested. So I waited a few months for her to be more ready, and then when we started up again she was trained within 3 days.
