Disney cruise fish extenders

I had read about this on LIF before. We leave on the Dream this Friday.

Is this something you have to sign up for beforehand?

Can I just go buy this and hang it on our fish hook?

Kids have no idea so I don't think they will miss it. I know they would love it if we did do it though.

Yes you have to sign up before hand. You could put a fish extender out, and hope for some "pixie dust" from fellow cruisers with extra gifts for the sole purpose of pixie dusting people! I personally wouldn't bother though.

We did a FE group last cruise, and it was a TON of work on a short cruise! Delivering the gifts to all the staterooms took FOREVER and we only had like 15 rooms. I don't know that we would do it again. We ended up with some cute things, but also a lot of junk.

This is what I made to hand out

Re: Disney cruise fish extenders

Why do I feel like every time I read a Disney thread I am reading some foreign language?

Fish extenders?
Pixie dust?

What does this all mean?

It's like you have to study to go on vacation!

ha! Well you will be prepared for your trip/cruise by reading up on here (if you ever go! lol) If you don't study for a Disney trip, you are basically screwed LOL

A fish extender group originates on Facebook (or other social media). A group of people traveling on the same cruise sign up to exchange gifts. They call it a "fish extender" because this thing with pockets hangs off the fish hook right outside your door. Then people in your "group" leave you goodies during your cruise. The kids seem to enjoy it.

Pixie dust is just "magic"..i.e. stuff just appeared in your fish extender that wasn't part of the group gifts.

Wow!
Thanks for the explanation.
This really is a sub culture all it's own I see!
It's very overwhelming for a newbie like me who basically is used to just "going" on vacation.
A little intimidating!

Fish extender participation is 100% voluntary. You can just "go on vacation" when you hop on board a Disney cruise. You might miss a princess meet and greet without some advanced knowledge of how things work, but other than that you can go and have a good time just like any other cruise.

You obviously don't have to participate in a fish extender group. Like the above poster said, you can just go and have fun. It's an "extra" thing that is supposed to be fun for the families (although I think it's more work than fun lol)
