House help spinoff--Malverne
I never post but had to respond.
Malverne schools ARE NOT BAD. They are actually pretty GREAT! Go for a tour, take a look at the awards they've won and continue to win every year. Speak to people who send their children to the public schools.
Unfortunately, Malverne schools have gotten a bad rap through the years and it's been close to impossible to change public opinion, no matter how they excel.
Take a tour. I did. I was blown away.

It's a mixed school district and for that reason, the people on is forum give it a thumbs down. The homes in Malverne are beautiful, the neighborhood is picturesque...and the schools may be good but no one on this board would ever know, because we all know how much these people LOVE MERRICK! SEAFORD! WANTAGH, BLAH,BLAH,BLAH... I am sure their kids school photos are 99% white and they never want it to change. It would do some of these people good to be a bit more open minded, don't make assumptions based on things you know nothing about, and visit some other towns in LI. Oh and by the way, was a there a post about the Murder in Merrick last week, I may have missed it.

i posted on the other board regarding malverne, and to clarify, i never said it was a poor neighborhood by any means. the town area is beautiful, homes are very cute, and the village is well kept.
I am very familiar with the area and the town, and was just stating the school distict "issue" as a fact rather than opinion. The fact remains that whether or not the school district is getting better, the public does not see it as a good school district. As a result, the home sales are not as great as they were in the past, when prospective buyers had the income to pay for catholic school for their kids. Because the public does not generally consider malverne a good school district, they are more weary to buy there since many cannot afford catholic school on top of the high village taxes. Many who buy in malverne seek to leave when their children are of school age, and look to move to lynbrook and RVC for the better schools.
Again, did not mean to offend anyone in any way. I love malverne and even looked there myself. I just know of too many situations where people did not get the best return on their investment on their property in that neighborhood when they tried to sell.
ETA: Here is the 2014 School District Rank List http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-island/2112626-long-island-high-school-rankings-2014-a.html you can see on the bottom of the post what factors into the score each district receives.

I don't know anything about the district , but do know several families living in Malverne. All of their kids go to private. Personally, I wouldn't want to pay for private elementary on top of the high taxes.

People are afraid of a racially diverse school. My entire IL side of the family are all products of malverne public education. They are all successful people and we are talking going Through the schools in the 70s thru the 2000s. People just want to go by what they hear and by some random ranking.
