Post nasal drip with cough helppppp!
It's been about 3 weeks now that I have been dealing with a serious post nasal drip. The coughing is out of control. I seriously go into coughing fits that last 20 minutes and leave my head pounding. Every morning is the worst. I am coughing up so much grossness, I can't even deal. The doctor thinks it's allergy related and/or viral. Has me taking Flonase and wants me to start Zyrtec D. Says she will give me an antibiotic if I want but doubts it will help. need this to go away! Anyone have anything similar or have any at home remedies to recommend? I've tried Tea with lemon & hiney until I' sick of it as well as essential oils. Thinking of trying saline spray as well. Help!

This just happened to me! I went to a pulmonologist. Got an albuterol inhaler as a rescue to open lungs, and advair which is a steroid to ease inflammation. Also a nasal spray for post nasal drip.
My breathing tests said I was borderline asthmatic. 3 weeks later I went back and tests were normal and not asthmatic. I had no other issues like congestion or runny nose.
Last year same thing happened and finally an antibiotic cleared it up after 2 months of misery, I don't know why it happens to me now but i feel you!

i am actually just coming off of this roller coaster ride myself!!!!!!
it started in September. I swore it was allergies as I had no other symptoms other than a horrible cough. the fits would go on for 10-15 min at a time and i was almost certain i had a brain tumor because my head hurt so much but i knew it was just from the coughing.
TMI - the coughing got so bad i had to buy those poise pads because i couldn't control my bladder when it got bad.
then i caught a cold which compounded the situation. the cold cleared up but the cough remained and i think all the fluid in my head gave me a sinus infection. I was taking Augmentin to help clear everything away but even that didn't take away the cough. Its just, now, over 2 months later and several dr visits later, sort of clearing up on its own. I hope you feel better soon!

I went through the same thing recently and antibiotics didn't help. I used my daughters inhaler whenever I started a cough attack, which helped. The cough eventually went away on its own.

I am in week 4 of this - I battled it without antibiotics but its a long process. I did get a non drowsy natural cough medicine at the health food shop and that helped a little. Its awful

Mucinex works great. Increase fluids helps me. Also sleeping with my head elevated helps.
Naps help me. My doctor usually puts me on steroids and an antibiotic when I am fighting this. I am praying I do not get sick for a while.

Ughhhhh thanks everyone, it's making me crazy! I'm a teacher and have parent conferences this week, this needs to go away asap!

I would also avoid all dairy. It makes mucus worse.

I would take Claritin or something like that. You need to dry up the drop in order to get rid of the cough. Cough will stay until you are fully dried up.

dd allergist prescribed another nasal spray to go along with her flonase. its azelastine hci nasal spray. it really helped with her drip.

Do the Flonase twice a day. Right after your shower/you wash your face so your sinuses are more open.
Use saline in between throughout the day as needed.
Also add in Sudafed, Claritin, Zyrtec. See what helps.
If it gets worse and becomes a sinus infection, then I'd get antibiotics.
I have really bad sinus problems and just had this for about 7 weeks. I had an antibiotic around the 4 week mark, but it came back. Finally went away on its own.

YES to Flonase. My DD gets a terrible post-nasal drip when she's sick that causes her to have insane coughing fits, especially at night when she's lying down. The Flonase works amazing and really dries her up A LOT.............and quickly!!
