If you have been to Disney during school break, how bad are crowds? WWYD?

We are going on a Disney cruise Thanksgiving weekend. I just realized that we have 1 day of parkhopper left from our last trip to Disney from 2014. DH is indifferent on going to Disney. I don't think we should waste it and go. We are flying in on Thanksgiving day around noon. Both Thanksgiving Day and the day after (day we leave on the cruise) are predicted to have crowds of 9. We have to get to the cruise ship by 3.

MK is probably the obvious choice to go for our day and both days are open until 1am. Our kids go to bed at 8:30-9.

How bad are crowds if you go during these peak travel times?

WWYD?

A. Head straight to MK from the airport on Thanksgiving day around noon. Book a few FP and enjoy the parade and fireworks knowing it will be very crowded.

B. Check in hotel (TBD) and go to Epcot for dinner on Thanksgiving.

C. Have a relaxing day on Thanksgiving and head to MK at rope drop on Friday for a few hours before heading to the cruise.

D. Just skip theme parks on this trip and plan to stay off site and do low key activities (Crayola and/or Wonderworks) until the cruise on Friday. This was the original plan before I realized we still had 1 day of tickets left.

We went one year around Thanksgiving and it was really crowded. That was the day before Thanksgiving though, so I imagine it's much worse on Thanksgiving or the day after. We went over Spring Break, and I didn't think that was TOO bad. We were also there on the 4th of July last year and the MK closed due to capacity. If you go, you need to pack your patience!

I would absolutely not waste time in the parks the morning of your cruise. You will see nothing, and you are missing out on boarding the boat earlier. We like to be on the boat at noon .

My co worker went Thanksgiving last year and she said it wasn't bad. Look at the crowd calendar for the different parks. Some are better

I wouldn't go on Friday - it wouldn't leave you much time, the cruise port is about an hour from the Orlando airport and you can get there before 3 and enjoy things on the boat.

I checked into our cruise yesterday and currently scheduled for 11:30am boarding. Original plan was to leave our TBD hotel after breakfast and board early on the ship.

When I was looking into hotels and logged into Disney, that was when I realized we had 1 day left linked to our magic bands.

I'd be satisfied with riding a handful of rides via FP, maybe walk on a few rides like the carousel and watch the parade and castle shows.

How bad were the crowds to view castle and parade?

Last time we went, we went the first week of December with supposedly super low crowds. We still could not get a view of the show at all of the castle. The castle was beautiful from afar but we were unable to see the show. I can only imagine how much more crowded it will be, especially with a closing time of 1am. That must mean that they are expecting insane crowds and 8-9pm will probably be peak time. Sigh.

I would make the most of your embark day on the cruise and plan to be there for the 11:30 boarding.

We will be in Disney Thanksgiving weekend this year. If I were you I would just go to the parks on Thanksgiving. Fast pass the rides you know you want and make the most of the day.

Since you have the day - I would go on Thanksgiving... It may be crazy and you may not be able to do as much as on a different day, but, you aren't paying any extra for it and it's something to do.

Honesty, I work in the schools and thus can never go on a vacation unless it's prime travel time.

Just use fast pass wisely and enjoy being in the parks as a whole, not "how many rides can I get on?"

I'd prefer going to a park on thanksgiving, only because I'm a highly anxious person and would check my watch a million times and worry about everything that could go wrong if we had to leave by a certain Time to catch the cruise ship.

As much as I love Disney, I would skip it. If you were staying several days I might go arrival day. If you are only flying in and cruising the next day I would skip it. You want to be on the ship as early as possible to get the most out of your first day. Thanksgiving crowds will be very heavy in the parks. I would plan for a nice relaxing family dinner, some pool time and just relax.

It depends on you - I personally find NOTHING enjoyable about being in a theme park with that crowd level.
I'd go to the hotel and relax before you head to the cruise ship.

I wouldn't do a park. Why not hang out it Downtown Disney for the day?

If anyone is interested, we decided to go to Animal Kingdom, the park with the lowest crowds projected for Thanksgiving. Our kids love animals. I got FP for the safari, Lion King and Kali River Rapids. We will most likely eat Flame Tree BBQ for dinner.
