I'm confused with all the love being spread around for this guy, considering he almost killed himself after a drug and sex marathon.

The world celebrates the wrong type of people. This guy should be ostracized, not celebrated. Priorities, people!

I pray to god you never have to "celebrate" a loved not dying from a drug overdose.

I rather see articles about the good in Lamar and his recovery than the BS fame around criminals like Theresa Guidice.

Lamar Odom released from Vegas hospital

It's not about not having compassion. I have a ton of compassion for him and wish him well. What I do not understand is that the constant media attention for him. I'm sure there are a ton of people out there that OD this week just like him and there is no minute to minute news coverage on that. He was married briefly to a reality star and is a washed up basket ball player. There is no reason to have breaking news on his condition. And yes it is the media showing it but that is because that is what the people want to see. Maybe if we decide not to watch things like this and focus more on people that are uplifting and heros to our youth, the media will focus on that instead.

Re: Lamar Odom released from Vegas hospital

Khardashian aside. That's irrelevant

He is a two time nba champion, sixth man of the year,Olympic medalist and seems to be beloved by the sports community

Many former and current athletes battle demons and they get media coverage. Bc people care. People follow him and his teams etc

ESP in this area. My sisters went to school with him and were in the cheerleading team when he played at ctk

They know him as a nice guy and that's why they care

Should there be more coverage in wounded soldiers et. Of course

But anyone showing a man a little compassion and sending a few prayers that he can et the help he needs is just in my book doing what they feel
Right

I see. But that's not HIS fault.

I'm sure he would rather have anonymity.

I'm so confused by this comment. No one is celebrating him! He is a drug addict. But it IS a disease, like a mental illness. Everyone who knew him seems to say he was the sweetest guy with the biggest heart. His friends and teammates GUSH about him. People just want him to get better and live a happy and healthy life. It's not exactly a "choice" to become and remain a junkie.

And not for nothing, he HAS been ostracized - he lost his job, his career, his wife, his kids. He has almost nothing left.

Yes, there are amazing people out there that do not get the praise they deserve but the fact is they are not celebrities. There is no possible way to highlight every.single heroic act or senseless tragedy. As much as I hate the media at times they cover the stories that make the most money and it obviously works in their favor.

Also, I'm pretty sure Lamar does not want this story being broadcasted for the whole world to hear! I know I certainly wouldn't if I were him! Why should we blame him for the excessive attention he is getting?

No, you can't highlight all of them. I would hope there are too many good people in the world to do that.

But there are positive stories out there; you just have to find them.

CNN does a feature called "CNN Heroes" where they feature people who start charities or help others in some way. I would rather read about them than this guy any day of the week.

That doesn't mean I don't have compassion for him. I do. I cannot imagine the power addiction holds over people.

However, having compassion and wishing people would make better choices are not mutually exclusive. The truth is, he HAS brought some of this on himself. Someone mentioned judging (or not judging) the sex, but it's not really about that. I'm sure he could get laid and keep a low profile. It's common sense that if he goes to a brothel, there will be drugs there. He needs to heal and not participate in activities that are only going to push him further into the limelight.
