Reminder to check your CO and smoke detectors
We turned on our heat today and installed some new carbon monoxide and smoke detectors and checked our old ones. I also have to check our fire extinguishers to make sure they are not expired and make sure I know where our fire ladders are on our second floor. Hoping I didn't forget something.
I hope not to hear any tragic stories this season.

Re: Reminder to check your CO and smoke detectors
Thank you for the reminder! We just finished painting some rooms and need to put ours back up ASAP! I'd really like to get those ladders for the second floor too, but since they are one use do you guys not practice if you have kids? I can't imagine trying to figure it out God forbid we needed to with all the kids.

Re: Reminder to check your CO and smoke detectors
I use an outlet CO detector rather than a battery one. I think it's good until February but should I replace it earlier?
Also, where and what brand is a good fire escape ladder to get? I guess I can check ACE Hardware maybe.

Not all are one-use, and even if you go with the one-use ones, get an extra one to use to practice with. They won't go bad if you reuse them to practice, but the manufacturer didn't design them to be repackaged properly and to open quickly a 2nd time. Just put it into a bigger box, and take a bit longer to use it while practicing.

Can you recommend a reusable one? I've only seen the one use ones. Because my oldest is only 6, I was hoping he could try and put it up himself during our drills, God forbid my DH and I couldn't help, and Id like it to be the same way each and every time. I'm not sure if we could keep 2 in his room, 1 for emergency and 1 for practice either, I imagine it would take up a decent amount of space.
Eta: thank you for responding!
