Has anyone done major work on their house and hated it?
I just finally redid my bathroom and hate the tile. All the money. I brought in a friend who is a decorator and changed everything. While I liked what we picked out, I hate it now. Should have went with what I originally picked out.

Aww that stinks
I haven't hated anything but there were a few things that I might have done differently
What if you used the wrong cleaning products and damaged the tiles and oh no now you have to replace it again- lol I'm obviously joking
Maybe it'll just take some time to get used to it
Hang in there

Yes, I redid a bathroom that I wasn't crazy about right after it was done. It's been 5 years now. It's okay… It's neutral so it's not horrible just not what I would normally pick. I still don't know why I deviated so much from my norm. It stinks. I'm sorry.

Oh my... This is me! I tried to do more what is in than what I originally wanted. Only one tub wall is done and I'm almost tempted to ask contractor how much it would be to take wall down and do white subway. My poor DH . I'm driving him nuts.

We gutted our bathroom and when it was painted I didn't love it. I felt awful but I couldn't live with it. It cost us another $750 to re prime and paint it.
Tile is much harder than paint to redo though. Could accessories, a shower curtain change how you feel?

It's not terrible but I should have went with something different that I wanted from the beginning. We were going to put custom shower doors over tub but I probably won't do that now. It's a gray floor with a plain light beige wall. I am putting niche in wall with glass I love. I'm hoping that helps. I'm just not thrilled about it and upset that after all the money and time I waited, I feel this way. A friend that's a decorator picked this out. I did like it but not feeling it now.

Yes - picked out carpet for our stairs and hallway. Once it was installed, I hated the color. Luckily, the place we bought the carpet from had a 90 day "return"policy - they would replace the carpet for just the cost of installation. Because it was the stairs, installation wasn't cheap, but I was so unhappy with the carpet and was glad I could "exchange" it.

If you only have one wall done and feel this way I think I would have them redo it. These aren't things you change all the time like a shower curtain. It's going to bother you...

To be honest, I'm not crazy about the floor either. Spent months shopping. I should have stuck with moe plain instead of mixing gray floor with beige til bathtub.

If only one wall was done, I would stop and redo it rather than live with something I hated. Post a photo, maybe someone has a suggestion? But I would not do beige and grey together.

Re: Has anyone done major work on their house and hated it?
We just did a second story addition. Thankfully, I love everything we picked out....but I'm not thrilled with the floors we picked. It's a cheaper bamboo and just the way they were installed makes me not overly thrilled with them. In 10-15 years, if we can afford to rip them up, we will, and put down a better quality bamboo floor. I like them, so I can live with them, but I'm not totally thrilled.

If you do not like it this is the time to speak up. You could always pick new tile to go with he gray floor like white subway tile. You can return or resell the unused tile.

Re: Has anyone done major work on their house and hated it?
Is it something that may be helped with accessories? We redid our bathroom and picked out a sand colored tile that I loved. When it was installed, it looked more pink to me and I hated it. I picked out a deep brown cabinet and brown accessories to balance it all out and I constantly get compliments on it now. I hope you can make it something you like.

OMG yes! I could have written your post word for word.. we re did our bathroom last winter/spring and really took our time picking stuff out this time and somehow, due to an unforeseen situation ended up with a bit of a different layout and much smaller vanity than I wanted.. That doesnt bug me quite as much as the fact that I ended waivering on my initial tile choice ending up spending double the amount on different tile and not liking it very much !! Everytime I see a photo or bathroom that has the design of the original tile I want, I literally want to cry. If you can change it do iT! I also hate the paint color that we picked out so I am hoping that if change the paint color maybe I wont hate the tile as much. Good luck, I know exacyly how you feel. Every time I walk by that bathroom (thankfully its not on our main floor) I get sad and a little bit mad ! .

Ugh I hope not. Our kitchen and floors are getting redone right now and I'm worried I won't like what I pick.

Wow is this the same! I originally picked out a light beige tile with movement and a tiny color of gray. I should have done that. We put it downstairs in small bath and I love it. That's when I started questioning my choice for main bath. I already had doubts and contractor said take my time and decide while my bath was apart. I held up the job. So I decided to go with original plan. I just thinking doing two color families on floor and wall is too much for me. DH said if I want to change the one wall and do white subway I can but he loves what we picked. We are also doing white subway in a smaller bath with shower stall so that will make both showers subway.

Find out. I'm not kidding. It will be much cheaper to fix it now than to have the whole thing done and have it redone later. the problem is you will have to pay a restocking fee for all of the tile that you didn't use and want to return. But would still be worth it in my opinion.

Agree with this. Its a lot easier and cheaper to pull down 1 wall of tile while under construction rather than a whole redo here.
1 wall, probably not grouted will take a few hours to remove max. yes, there is the waste of the tile, and whether the stuff that wasn't put up is returnable, but I'd change it if you hated it.
Subway tile at Lowes or Home depot is cheap and readily available, and probably matches your floor

Yes! I didn't want a patio, I wanted a deck. So I let DH do the patio since he had to have it. I hate the color, style, size, everything about it. HATE! lol I should have just done it myself instead of being spiteful.

Re: Has anyone done major work on their house and hated it?
Update- I had them take off the tile of the one wall. Because it was just put in Saturday, it came off easy. I am putting in white subway tile. I feel so much better. While my floor is not what I would have picked out for white subway, it is pretty much gray, it will work. That is already in. Just going to make everything white.

Re: Has anyone done major work on their house and hated it?
Yes - My master bathroom. They did a good job, technically - but I hate it. I hated the 'designer' in the tile store who 'helped' me pick things out and supposedly 'match' them .........like you, I should have went with what I originally picked, and knew I wanted, rather than letting her talk me into something different that I'm SO unhappy with. - $35k later - I'm going to live with that bathroom for a looooooooong time - I already changed the paint, which helped a little - but not enough
Lesson learned - MY house, go with MY style - not some random person

Re: Has anyone done major work on their house and hated it?
I would give it time. I chose a color for my kitchen/dining/living area and when it went up I HATE HATE HATED it. I was so upset. But once all of the furniture went in and I put stuff on the walls, it wasn't nearly as horrible as I'd thought.
