Danny Pintauro of who's the boss reveals he's HIV positive

Judith Light is proud of her on screen son, Danny Pintauro, who told Oprah Winfrey in a recent interview that he has been HIV positive for 12 years.

“He’s kept me informed all the way along, and when he was talking about coming out, because he was going to be outed,” the TV matriarch, 66, said during an interview with Good Day New York on Monday, Sept. 28, two days after Pintauro’s Where Are They Now? segment aired on OWN.

Back in 1997, Pintauro, now 39, was forced to come out publicly as gay after the National Enquirer threatened to out him in the press.

When one of Good Day New York’s hosts suggested that society was “done with” the painful process of "outing" a member of the LGBT community, the Transparent star replied, “Well, you know, we’re not. The world is different, and it’s better, but we still need to have a more understanding and a more responsible and a more responsive and a kinder society. That’s why Transparent is such an important show.”

First declaring, “I am so proud of him,” Light went on to note, “He’s talking about being HIV positive. He is being incredibly proactive. He now has a wonderful husband named Wil. He’s giving a different face to what is still a disease that has not been handled

So far, Pintauro’s other Who’s the Boss? costars Tony Danza and Alyssa Milano have not spoken out about his courageous interview. As his episode was airing, Pintauro posted an Instagram photo with his husband of one year, Wil Tabares, writing, “Last meal as a nobody. ;) first meal as an activist. #lifelovelive.”
