How many times.....

Did you try a new food with DD/DS before you decided to stop? DD is 5 months and we are currently experimenting with veggies -- so far the orange color family has been a hit -- she loves squash, carrots, and sweet potatoes. We've tried peas a few times and she consistently spits them out. At what point would you call it quits and stop purchasing them (yes, I use jarred baby food -- please no judgment)? By no means do I think she'll never eat peas -- just referring to the current time period.

No judgment. So did I.

I would try at least three days mainly for allergy reasons. But their tastes change. Even now at 2. One day dd will love something and next day hate it. These kids....

My sister is a feeding therapist. She says it takes 10 separate tries before you can officially say a baby doesn't like something. I always went by that rule, but I felt I could tell what was going to be a bust long before that!

How long you expose a child to a new food before assuming they don't like it is really up to you. The rule of thumb is to try a food for 3 days to rule out an allergy or reactions. After that, I don't see a reason to continue giving a food if they don't like it. I'm Italian so this might be the foodie in me, but if my child dislikes something, I wouldn't give it more than 3 times at the risk of her seeing food as an aversive when you move onto something new. You can always introduce it again down the line to see if they like it again.

When my DD started solids she really didn't like peas. Now she is 2 and loves them. Even if a LO doesn't like it now, it doesn't mean they will dislike it forever.

I used to mix the green in with the sweet potatoes and carrots --- and mix more and more and more green to kind of have him "adjust" to the strong taste of the green veggies.

I also found that spinach and broccoli was better received than peas, for my son, at least. I know each child is different. But I still mixed it in and little by little got him used to the taste of the greens because it is distinct, and different... vs the sweet taste of the carrots and potatoes.

Before I knew it he was eating straight spinach and loved it.

I'm not sure if the baby food you buy offers other green varieties but the one I used was Earth's Best Organic and they had summer veggies which was zucchini and corn mixed, but it was mostly green, and they had spinach, they also had broccoli, etc.

I tried peas first with my son. He hated them. The sad little look on his face was so heartbreaking. I only tried one more time. Why torture the poor kid?
