Gas issues, no reflux??
My DS is just about a month old and is a very gassy little dude. He really doesn't spit up a ton or show signs of reflux but after feeding, he has a lot of distress that appears to be gas-related. We give him the Similac Sensitive formula and put gas drops in each bottle, we are diligent about burping but after eating he still cries, seeming to be in pain. Once he passes gas or poops, he relaxes a lot, but before that point he is very restless and upset.
Anything else I can be doing to help? We also give him little tummy massages and move his legs around to keep the gas moving but it doesn't help a ton, especially if we're looking to prevent the issues.

Dd1 had that. She ended up on alimentum rtf and was a diff baby. It was so hard to watch her so uncomfortable.

Gas issues, no reflux??
My dd was similar and ended up on Alimentum. I went through so many formula changes and medications. It turned out she had an intolerance NOT an allergy, just a digestive intolerance to dairy. It was the protein in dairy called casein that was too hard for her body to break down.
She would CRY so much in pain, she had diarrhea or would get constipated. She would wake in the middle of the night and wiggle and was clearly uncomfortable, on top of crying for hours before finally passing out. Pretty much crying herself back to sleep.
I tried a sensitive formula I tried the Gerber formula and finally I decided to transition to Alimentum. And after 3 days I noticed a small difference and after a week I had a brand new baby who started to sleep in 6 hour stretches! And her daytime eating became more normalized.
IF for any reason your ds doesn't like the taste don't give up keep trying.
If he gives you a lot of push back then do a slower transition. I did it with my dd cause she was 2 months before we figured it out. And I thought it was best to transition slowly because of the different taste. I had to mix her reg formula with the alimentum. If she was drinking 4 oz, then I would do 3 oz reg to 1 oz alimentum for 2 days... Then 2 oz reg to 2 oz alimentum for 2 days... Then 3 oz alimentum to 1 oz reg and then all alimentum.

Has drops before and after every bottle
Burp after every oz. lots of bike kicks and bouncing

Gripe water, infant massage and chiropractic adjustments. Also, try to keep the baby more upright after feelings.

DD was like that. We just had to sort of ride it out. It got better somewhere around 2 months, I think.

Thanks ladies, I have his one month appt this week do I will def bring up the possibility of alimentum and get more feedback from the pediatrician.

I will also say go with your gut. You're the mom and know your child better than any pediatrician.
Dd1 did not have any allergies and our pedi said there's no reason to do alimentum. I ignored him and tries it and within a week I had a brand new baby who was finally comfortable

I agree with this 100%!!!! My Dr constantly told me not to change dd to alimentum. She has severe reflux and alimentum is thinner it will make her spit up more. I listened initially cause I was a new mom and I was scared. Well after a month A MONTH of torture that my poor baby and I went through, I changed it against his wishes and I had a brand new baby!!!

I'm so glad you both posted this. I am definitely having some mommy gut instinct about this, but of course I like to see what the dr says also. It's nice to hear from moms who have gone with their instinct and it worked out for the best. It makes me feel more comfortable trusting in my parenting.
