Anyone ever been? I was thinking of taking my son there on vacation in April to see the aquarium. Any hotel ideas? Places to visit, other things to do? Thanks!!

Re: Clearwater Florida
We just went in April! If you can swing it, stay at the Sandpearl.
Sanpearl Resort So insanely beautiful, luxurious and nice. Best hotel in the area.
They have movies by the pool at night for the kids, they have games in the afternoon by the pool. Sand toys to borrow for the beach. Free breakfast every morning for kids at the buffet. Very kid friendly. The gulf is so warm and calm, great for kids
The aquarium is right there, yes. Busch Gardens in Tampa isn't far, but we didn't do it. But it's an option.
I really loved the area- so beautiful!

Re: Clearwater Florida
Love Clearwater, so nice, pristine beaches with flour soft sand! Travel up a bit and visit Indian Rocks Beach, that was nice too.
Loved the CMA, as we are huge Dolphin Tale and Winter fans, but it's a no frills aquarium. If you are going for anything other than seeing Winter and Hope, you will be disappointed. It's more of a marine research facility since their motto is rescue, rehabilitate and release. What you see on TV is what you get. Def. visit the movie prop location downtown though if you are fans. We went shortly after the release of Dolphin Tale 1, so it wasn't too crowded. I imagine it's crowded these days. My kids are begging to go again. I know they are raising money to build a newer facility, not sure where they stand with that.
We also went to the MOSI in Tampa, enjoyed that. They have a nice children's area.

Also go to the Florida aquarium in Tampa- about 20 mins away. It's a really nice aquarium and much larger than Clearwater.

Re: Clearwater Florida
We went to Tampa/Clearwater last spring. We went to Busch Gardens and Lowry Zoo as well as the aquarium and beach. Was a fun vacation.
We stayed at Sheraton Sand Key in Clearwater and the Westin in Tampa. Both hotels were nice. We stayed for free on Starwood points.

How was Busch Gardens? Good for a 5 year old? Enough rides for him I mean??

We went to St Pete Beach a couple years ago which is near Clearwater. Outside of the hotel, we went to the aquarium in Tampa and to Bush Gardens. They have a kiddie section with rides and they have a zoo on site too.

I've stayed in Clearwater and in Clearwater Beach. Love it there. The beaches are beautiful!!
If you've ever seen the movie Dolphin Tale, the dolphin Winter, lives at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. It's cool. You get to see her at her habitat. The aquarium is a separate building (take a trolley or boat) to get there. My niece who is now 8, has been twice and loved it every time.
