I bought in kohls. Not sure of the quality/durability yet but dd is only 2.5 and will outgrow it In a few months anyways.

I just went to kohls and target today and they didn't have much left in stock. I am headed to Walmart tomorrow to see what they have.
ETA: if you are looking for tap and ballet shoes they have a buy 1 get 1 50% off at payless. I just got those today too.

My Mil gave my DD money to buy her first shoes and outfits so I went to the dance store our studio recommends. But I also got her a couple outfits, skirts and tights from Target & Kohls. You can definitely tell the difference in quality compared to the chain stores.

As a former ballet student, I agree with a pp that you can feel a difference in the "real" leotards vs the kohls/target ones. It depends on how old your child is, I suppose. I was not about to spend $40 on a two year old, when I don't even know if she will like dance, and when she will probably be ready for the next size by January. But I'm sure in a year or two, I will happily invest the money.
Target only had in-store starting at size 5/ 6. Kohls had in store when I got, but not a lot left. I also sized up.

I buy basic black or pink at Walmart, they are like $7 and come in itty bitty sizes up to bigger girls. I think XXS is the smallest. They are Danskin brand, and are perfectly fine. My daughter has never complained, and they wash just as nicely as the $50 gymnastics leos I buy her.

I got a Capezio and a Danskin leotard and a tutu on Amazon. My motto: When in doubt, Prime it.
DD is in her first year of dance. I have no idea if she's going to like it or not and I wasn't looking to spend a ton of money on gear. If she decides to stick with it, I'll happily buy out Encore in Hicksville.

I bought DD her first by Capezio from Pirouette in Huntington Village. She's had it for over 2 years and it still fits her and is in good condition. I just bought her a new one from there for the start of this dance year. Last year, I also bought her one at Target. It was about $10-12 cheaper, but it's not holding up as well. It's a little pilly at this point.

I bought my DD dance leotard in Wallmart. I had gotten her tights in Target but I think I need to find another place to get them. The tights get the tiniest little pull on them, and my DD tugs at it and rips them. Every month I will be getting tights at this rate!!
