Where should you place the infant carseat.... I know the middle is safest, but then where?

The least protected child should be in the middle, if you can get a correct install there. So if you have 2 rearfacing seats, the youngest should be in the middle, if possible. If you have 1 rearfacing and 1 forward facing, the forward facing seat should be in the middle, if possible.

That being said, I have 2 rearfacing seats and I have my toddler on the passenger side and my newborn on the driver side. I decided on these positions because I wanted to be able to put the infant seat down on the curb while putting my toddler in the car and then carry the infant seat over to the driver side after my toddler was buckled in. I also had the convertible seat installed on the passenger side already.

This is the arrangement I have in my car for the same exact reasons.

It all depends on your car. The middle is not always safest. I have a 2010 Ford Escape, and the passenger side is safest bc the seat cannot be installed correctly in the middle. The seat is not wide enough. The car's owner manual should tell you where to place the car seat. We had our infant seat professionally installed and he confirmed that middle was not safest for our car.

Thank you for your responses. I was certain I read somewhere that after the middle, the next safest was the passenger side. Can anyone direct me to a legit site that says this?

With 2 car seats, there's a good chance middle won't work. I know it wouldn't in my car, and I have an SUV.

In my car we have the convertible behind passenger and infant behind driver so I can turn around and pass things to my older one.

In my husband's car, we have the convertible behind the driver because my husband is tall and needs to sit further back. The infant seat doesn't fit behind him.

Make sure you read your car manual as well - the middle seat isn't always the safest place, depending on the car. When we only had DS 1, we had a Subaru Forester and the manual advised against installing in the middle.

That being said - we put the infant seat behind the passenger and the forward facing convertible seat behind the driver (so the driver could have more legroom).
