Apple Picking NOT on LI?

Where does everyone like to apple picking north of the city? We've been to Maskers in Warwick pre-kid, but I feel like it is too big for a small kid. I'm planning on going with my DS (15 months) and his cousin (2 years). I've looked up a couple of places in Westchester that look nice, but it's always hard to tell if you haven't been there. Oh bonus if there are fresh cider donuts available!

Apple Picking NOT on LI?

We really like Barton Orchards. There is a fee to go in but they have a lot of activities for kids. They have a bakery on site with lots of great treats and cider, pumpkin picking, a great variety of apples, a hayride that takes you near each activity, etc.

We go to Soons orchard that is upstate. Nice place, they have a U Pick just down the road from the main store/area. We like them b/c they have large apples, and seem to always have a bunch, rather than being picked out like LI. Also seems to have less people than the LI places.

At the main area they have a shop with a bakery, and cider donuts. They also have a hard cider tasting room, some food they cook and sell, and hayrides. They have a real U Pick on the pumpkins as well, you actually go out on the hayride to a field, and twist the pumpkin off the vine.

We have only tried 1 other place upstate (Ican't remember) and liked this one better.

Wilkens farm in Yorktown Heights

or

Outhouse orchards in North Salem

Wilkens is bigger, but it gets really crowded.(still smaller than Maskers) Their donuts are amazing but line is usually long, so go early if you can.

Outhouse is smaller, but they have a corn maze & I remember a few animals, but that was years ago & I don't see mention/pictures of it on their website. few animals.

ETA-I've never been to Harvest Moon, but it is close to OutHouse, so you could go to North Salem & if one is too crowded, try the other.

Fishkill Farms in Hopewell Junction is supposed to be nice, I have not been but it's not far from where I live and I know lots of people who love it.

I like Outhouse/Harvest Moon but both get super crowded on the weekends. I've heard the traffic backs up down 684 (both are right off exit 8 so I see why it's appealing to people not from the area). We went one weekend and had to park a ways away, which was not a big deal but I wasn't crazy about having to cross the street with all the traffic.

Blue Jay Orchards in Bethel is really nice too, it's in Connecticut but an easy trip up 684/84.

very basic and laid back. Just fruit, no other activities. But we go to Rose Hill Farm in Red HOok. It is beautiful up there.

This.

And it's never a zoo like the places in Warwick that are filled with everyone from LI anyway. Chat Icon
