Booking disney through a travel agent
I am looking to book a disney trip for my family and parents. We have gone to disney many times but never booked through a travel agent. I am looking to see if you get better deals or specials. If you have booked through a travel agent what are the incentives? I'm thinking of art of animation or port orleansp

Re: Booking disney through a travel agent
this is our first time going and I booked through a travel agent simply because I didn't want to have to deal with a bunch of things I just let her do it for me :) I am not sure if you got me better deals but she was the one who looked them up for me.
from what I hear you should be able to get the same deals you get through a travel agent yourself

Booking disney through a travel agent
Travel Agents often belong to a consortium, or even book a certain volume of travel that entitles them or their agency to certain upgrades or special incentives that are difficult to get otherwise. It won't cost you anything, and having a travel agent will give you the human contact you are looking for when you have questions. There are specially licensed agents that book Disney! Look for them, they've done a lot of work to get the accreditation. I even think a few of the travel vendors on lif here are Disney.

Re: Booking disney through a travel agent
Booking directly through Disney gives you the same prices as booking through a travel agent. Disney Travel Agents do not get any other discounts beyond what is offered To the general public. You obviously have to do all of the leg work though. Just know, if you booked through an agent, you cannot speak to Disney directly regarding your reservation. You must go through your travel agent. All of your travel documents would be sent to them.

Booking disney through a travel agent
Can you pay Monthly through a travel agent where if you book through disney you have to pay all at once. I'm just trying to figure why book through a disney travel agent.

People use an agent because they don't want to do the legwork themselves.
No, same payment policies. You pay a deposit for a room only reservation of one night and the rest at check in. If you have a package, you pay a deposit, and the rest due within a certain timeframe (not sure, since I rarely book a package). I want to say within 45 to 60 days of travel?
I personally like to book everything myself. I don't want to have to rely on going through a travel agent if I decide at 8pm that I want to add an extra night, etc. I prefer to be able to deal with Disney directly. We go to Disney a lot though, at least once, if not twice a year, so I'm pretty knowledgeable for our trips. I used Orbitz a few times, and did not like that I could not talk to Disney directly. I had to go through Orbitz, it was annoying.
Mousesavers.com and Kenny The Pirate are both great sites for Disney planning.

Sometimes Travel agents qualify for freebies, upgrades, and perks that the general public doesn't, while you're right if the price may be the same. However you can call to speak to a hotel or Disney about your reservation to make inquiries. You might not be able to make changes, though. No one can stop you from calling!

It depends on how far in advance you book and if the travel agent books a vacation package where you make an initial deposit, then payment is due at a later time. However, airfare is paid for immediately no matter who books it. I would recommend any LIF travel vendor near you.

Are you a travel agent? I read a lot of Disney sites and blogs, and I've never heard anyone getting a perk through Disney just by using a travel agent. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I'm sure it's very rare to get an upgrade or something free directly from Disney just for using an agent.
Of course they will answer a general question, but if it has to do with changing dates, rates, etc. they will refer you back to your agent or 3rd party booking company. Even when it comes to technical issues with the My Disney Experience site and parties not showing up. We had that issue, and the 3rd party had to put me on hold and call Disney. Disney would not speak to me. It was pretty annoying.

Booking disney through a travel agent
I use a disney travel agency that does get the best deals and is exclusive to those deals with Disney. I believe Disney allows them to book rooms in bulk and then its on the agency to fill them. So when we went last year we got what was considered a large group rate and it was SOOO much cheaper than disney direct. They offer it at certain times and certain hotels.

This is actually correct as I get emails from them regularly but never booked. They get some amazing deals, but often they are around holidays or times that don't work for us. But have seen the poly (pre renovations for very low costs). As I understand it, they are not standard packages. They book blocks like conferences do so they get conference rates, and tickets are conference tickets so they have dates expiration or something like that from what I read. Not sure if we can post names I found them on disboards. But let's just say they are magical and look for travel agency exclusives. I have personally never used them.

Do they only have packages? I prefer to drive.

This. Some you can add dining, but not on all.

Re: Booking disney through a travel agent
We used Jen at Dreams to come true-- the Disney travel agent everyone uses. I would use her again and again.
She gave a very detailed layout and suggestions for thigns to do as we were on our way to different rides/attractions.
She was so patient with me- as it was our first trip and had tons of questions.
Highly suggest her.
