How would you tell DC you are going to Disney?

My parents are taking me, DH , DD -4.5 yo, DS -23 months and my nephew 4.5.

We are driving down and taking different cars. The kids think we are just going to Florida to visit family and this is true. Turns out DH grandmas 90th bday party is the Saturday before we check in to Disney. My parents and nephew will be visiting my aunt while we are checking into a hotel for two nights to attend the birthday party.

My thought right now is my parents meet us at the hotel at check out time and we will head to Disney then (bday party is in Orlando or right by it) I want to tell the kids right before we are heading there. ( I also feel it's important that my parents are there since they are paying for the majority of the trip)

I just have no idea how to do it. DD keeps asking me if we can go to Disney and I keep telling her we don't have the money now but next year we can go ( let's just hope she still won't expect it next year ) every time I say why are we going to FL she says I know just to see family.
She is going to freak out when she finds out we are going ( at least I hope ) so I really want a good way to tell them. I guess could just say we are going but looking to see if anyone has any other ideas.

I would pack a box with Disney esq things and have her open it in front of others. Maybe a disney book, a princess outfit..stuff you will use in disney.. She is going to be so excited!!! =)

You can have them each open a bag with a Mickey and Minnie balloon at the same time as each other. And yell "we're going to Disneyland!" Easy, short and sweet.
And I always hit up the Dollar Tree before trips and make my kids travel bags. That will be especially helpful for you since you're driving. They each get things like new coloring books, crayons, snacks, little games or puzzle, light up wands to use at Disney, etc... Since Ypunou driving I would also include a drink and maybe a new DVD or two. I usually buy the $5 ones at Target

I got Mickey ear hats and Duffy (they had seen him on prior trips) and put in a note that says we are going to Disney. We boxed it up and the kids opened it in front of everyone. You could buy some ears online and grab a shirt or favorite Disney character doll and give it to her to open. I know some do treasure hunts, or boxes with Mickey balloons and other Disney items.

Etd to add...don't be surprised if it takes a few minutes to set in. My kids were asking while we were ON our trip when we would come back, and daily after. They were like um ok when they opened it...and went on to the next gift (Christmas) but it sunk in a few minutes later and they were jumping up and down very excited.

The first time we surprised DD Mickey Mouse called.

The second time we surprised DD, we put her magic band around a stuffed animal as a collar. Since she had already been to Disney she knew what a magic band was.

We are in the same boat. Leaving 2 weeks from today. DD is 5 and this is her first trip. She has been begging to go and I told her we can't this year, but we're going to Florida.
I bought a bunch of disney stuff already, so I plan on waking her up before we leave for airport and have a bag or box ready with Minnie tshirt, minnie ears, magic bands (she knows what they are) and some things I got her for the plane ride. Going to see if I can sneak a mickey balloon in the house the night before.

My mil put disney stuff in a box for my nephews and daughter with disney tee-shirt and stuffed animal, and then put a little poem at the bottom that we were going there.
