Switching to convertible carseat.....
DD just turned 4 months and is a big girl, but especially tall (she's already 26 inches which is the 98th%). Her infant car seat is at the max settings (headrest/side impact at the highest it goes, etc.) and I think it'll comfortably accommodate her for about another 4ish weeks, given how freaking quick she's been growing. In addition, I no longer take the infant car seat out of the car because its just too dang heavy to carry with her in it, so I just take her in and out. Anyone else switch to a convertible car seat when DD or DS were really young? A few of my friends said their kids were in their infant seat for over a year. As someone who produced a large child and will likely have large babies in the future, I'm trying to wrap my head around how people are using the infant seats for so long!

Switching to convertible carseat.....
We moved dd at 10 months. We could have done it sooner but I wanted the weather to be warmer. It was easier keeping her in the infant seat and snapping it into a stroller.
4 months seems really young to me to move but if she meets the weight and height and you keep it rear facing its ok. Some people skip the infant seat altogether and who straight to a convertible seat

Switching to convertible carseat.....
We just put a convertible in one of our cars. I too have a large baby. He is in the 90th percentile across the boards at 5 months. He seems much more comfortable in the convertible.

Switching to convertible carseat.....
Can you take the headrest part out? That might make her more comfortable and let you use it closer to the max height. You could switch any time though since convertibles are usually made to use even with a newborn. I would definitely suggest looking at the max heights for rear facing before picking a convertible since some are higher than others.

Switching to convertible carseat.....
I had my DS in one at 4 months. He is also tall. The main reason we had him in the convertible was that for daycare we were not able to leave the infant seat at daycare. My husband and I split drop off and pick up. I did not see the point in spending money on another infant seat when we could just buy the convertible that we would need eventually anyway. I use a Chicco Nextfit which I though fit him comfortably at that age. We switched to convertibles in both of ours by the time he was 8 months (we have 2 Nextfits).

Switching to convertible carseat.....
Many parents opt to skip the infant seat all together. There's no reason why you can't switch now.
We didn't switch til 9 months but DD is in the 25th percentile for both height and weight.

I know it's possible to skip the infant seat. We used ours a long time (our seat could possibly go up to 32 inches).
I'm surprised though that you are at max position at 26 inches. Please make sure the straps are at the right height for the seat (whether you keep infant or switch).

Thanks! I'll definitely look into it -- I just read the spec sheet for our infant car seat and it says that it accommodates up to 32in. and 35lbs. but I'm just not quite sure how. Like I said, without the side impact/head restraint (not the right word but I'm blanking) at the highest setting, its virtually impossible to get the straps over DD's shoulders because they are way too low. I can't move the straps up or down on their own, they are connected to and only move with the increase or decrease in the headrest's height.

There also is most likely a specification that states the child also needs 1" above their head. What seat is it??
There is no "need" for an infant seat. You can switch whenever you want. There are plenty of parents that skip it entirely.
Do you gave a convertible seat already? If so what seat is it? If not, feel free to PM me to go 9ver options for taller/bigger kids. Not all seats have the limits they say they do.
Also, keep in mind that regardless of their height and weight it is very important for her to remain rear facing until a minimum of 2 years old but preferably until she reaches the limits of the convertible seat in rear facing mode.

Switching to convertible carseat.....
I put my DS in the convertible at 4 months and he still had plenty of room in the carrier. he was just happier in the convertible

I would switch the seat. My son was in the 99+% for height and we switched him to a convertible rear facing car seat at about 5 to 6 months old. The only reason we waited was due to his weight. He needed a lb or two to meet the new car seat weight requirements.

Switching to convertible carseat.....
I switched my kids around 5 months. They were biggish babies and I was squeezing hem into the infant seat. And it's not like they slept much in the car lol.
