X-Post-Surprise 35th Birthday
My friend is planning her boyfriend's surprise 35th birthday party. She is looking for a laid back, casual place where there can be buffet style food, drinks and people can come and go as they please. Can anyone recommend a place in either Queens or Nassau.

I have been to a party recently at The Library Cafe in Farmingdale. They had the party in the upstair room with a nice buffet and passed apps.

Keep in mind that most places are going to treat this like a regular affair, want to book for a set # of hours and will need a head count for food.
It's the year of 40th bday parties in our group so I don't know if "just coming and going as one pleases" is realistic unless the party is at someone's home.
My friend just had to hunt people down to RSVP like any other event at a restaurant.
