Re: How are all the first time K moms doing?
We started on Tuesday, and I have to say, she did SOOO much better than I thought she would. I was a mess. For months. I couldn't even think about it for months without breaking down and just crying. Constantly. It was bad.
But on the first day, she seemed fine, so I felt better. She got on the bus with no issues and was actually kind of excited.
The odd part was just putting her on that bus and that was it. No confirmation that she got there ok, no walking her by the hand to her class. I felt very incomplete all day.
At 3:30 when we went to meet her at the bus she came bouding off, all smiles, so happy and super excited. She was so wound up- she couldn't calm down for hours- just telling us about her day, etc. So excited.
The next morning she woke up and was actually excited to go to school again. I asked her which school she liked better- her new school or her old school (which she had been at for 5 years, practically since birth and she LOVED) and she said to me "I like my new school better"
It was music to my ears.
I have to say that seeing her being so ok with it, and loving it all so much has put all my fears and anxiety to rest and I feel such a sense of peace and relief.
Hope everyone else has a similar experience.
I swear it is so true what they say- it's so much harder on us, than it is on them!

The putting her on that bus no confirmation that she got there ok would also be so difficult for me. They should have a number you can call that tells you what time the bus pulled up to school-lol
It really is harder on us. I feel like my heart is missing right now since we've been together everyday for the past 5 years. It's so bitter sweet, kids growing up. You really see how quickly time flies when you have kids. Next week will be rough for me too b/c my 3 yr old starts nursery. And today seeing the image of the little 3 year old refugee boy who drowned, I swear, looks just like my 3 year old from behind when he is sleeping.. yeah, I cried for over an hour this morning.

Re: How are all the first time K moms doing?
My DD has been going for a week now, and she is having such a good time, she's only half day, but she tells me she wishes she was full day like her brother in 1st grade lol. She was nervous going, but I'm so happy she is so excited to go everyday. But she did say she sat by herself on the bus yesterday which made me so sad, I honestly wish I could drive them bc I hate the uncertainty from the bus, but as they switch schools I won't be able to get everybody there on time. Hopefully she makes more friends on the bus though, she knows a few but since we are the last stop, they can't always sit together.

I just want to chime in and say that your school district should be calling you if for whatever reason your child doesn't make it into school. That should help with the bus uncertainty. I would make sure this is their policy when you go to Back To School night

we started last tuesday. So in over a week already and it's great. I was nervous for the bus but more of she doesn't know what to do or where to go, but everything is great now. I LOVE the bus. I don't have to ruch out and fight traffic lol Next week she goes full day. They do 2 weeks half day at first to transition. My DD sits by herself to sometimes on the bus especially going. She's one of the first pickups and theres not a lot of kids on this route so they can spread out

This is the policy in my district. There were a couple of issues yesterday at pick up and drop off that I witnessed and the school was on top of it (parents were livid though).
First day went well, he liked it, made some new friends and told me a lot about his day. I'm excited for his ice cream social tonight.
I cried a little since everyone else was - otherwise I would have kept it together better.
I need to be more organized in packing his bag - there is a lot to remember compared to daycare. Today I forgot snack (DH was home and rectified the situation). But, I have to send in a daily note for transportation which has been my main focus (since some days he walks home and some days he's bussed to daycare).

Re: How are all the first time K moms doing?
My dd started on Tuesday. I was a complete wreck. She was a little nervous but she got on that bus and drove away all smiles. I followed the bus and watched her walk into school and got some great photos. As I walked away I had a good long ugly cry for myself. I couldn't wait for her to get home. She came home and told me she loves school. I'm thrilled that she likes it. I miss her so much during the day. It's such a long day. I miss walking into her prek and talking with the teachers and knowing what's going on. I know she is going to do great and I'll adjust!

How are all the first time K moms doing?
My son started Tuesday. He loves it! He was a little nervous, but excited going in that day. He had so much to say when I picked him up and drop off each day since, he's leaped out of the car with a big smile and greeting for the teacher. It's incredible to watch my baby boy turning into this amazing, independent kid. He has been a little weirded out by the independence factor, but not really in a bad way. Like they walk with a buddy (no adult) to the bathroom and this morning, the principal got him out of the car, and then just told him he could walk in and go to his classroom. He kind of froze because I don't think he got that he was allowed to go on his own haha. Just going to take a little getting used to for him.
