Car seat harness straps too tight?
Has anyone else had this problem? DD is 4.5 and average size but the harness straps are so tight that I can barely get it on her. If she grows a tiny bit more it's not going to fit. I don't see any way to fix this.
It's a Britax convertable, I think Boulevard but I don't remember exactly. It's supposed to go up to something like 70lbs and she's only 45lbs. I don't understand what I'm missing here. Am I the only one?

Car seat harness straps too tight?
Could the straps be caught on something in the back, so they are artificially shortened?

I don't think so but I'm willing it take it out and check. It was professionally installed so I don't imagine this is the problem.
She's not a skinny little kid but she's also not overweight so I don't see why this should be an issue.

Re: Car seat harness straps too tight?
Do the straps need to be raised? Like if you raise the straps does it loosen them at all?

when you push the button to loosen the straps do you get a lot of the strap. I cant imagine she grew out of it. something def. has to be up with the seat

Re: Car seat harness straps too tight?
Did you pull the straps out as far as they go? Is there length at the crotch buckle? I would get our your manual and read it to see what exactly the issue is.

Re: Car seat harness straps too tight?
The same thing happened back with my infant seat with both kids. Neither was over the weight limit but the straps seemed to be too short. I loosen them as far as they will go and I can close it around her but I barely need to tighten it because it's already so tight.
I'm going to take it out and look at it (and the manual, maybe will call Britax) since this doesn't seem to be a common issue.

I know my infant one (Grago Snugride) has two levels of loops in the back where you can hook them to the metal hooks.... when the baby is tiny, you use the higher loop which makes the straps shorter. When the baby is bigger, you have to go to the back of the carseat to move the hooks to the lower loop (this is separate from moving the straps up the slits on the back). I don't know if that explanation made any sense, but this is the first thing I thought of when I read your post.
ETA: I was trying to describe page 22 of this PDF http://download.gracobaby.com/ProductInstructionManuals/PD115793C.pdf

Re: Car seat harness straps too tight?
I had to move DS out of his Britax seat last year for the same reason. I researched it a bit and learned that Britax has considerably shorter strap lengths. For me, it became impossible to get him in with even a sweatshirt on….
After some initial issues with the Graco (nautilus?), I'm very happy with it. I would have preferred another Britax, but was fearful of strap length issues again.

We have the Britax Marathon and I can't imagine the straps ever being too tight on DS. Maybe you don't have it set up properly? Those straps are looooooooong.

I had the same issue with the Britax Boulevard. I ended up getting a Graco seat and I like it so much better and no issues with the straps

There's 2 sets of loops on the back since the seat can be used from infancy through toddler/preschool age.
Do the harnesses come out of the seat from above her shoulders?

Re: Car seat harness straps too tight?
I've heard britax is not great for tall kids. On their website, they have specs that include shoulder height. Maybe measure your dd's shoulder height when sitting and compare to the specs online. It kind of stinks - I love britax and it's all I own for my own cars. Had a terrible experience with a graco and will never again. I'm worried dd will have the same issue you are describing. Would you consider moving her to a combo booster at her age?

I have to look but I adjust the strap height by squeezing the top of the head rest and pulling it up. I moved it a bit higher and it gave me a tiny bit more room but not much.
My seat is definitely a Boulevard and now that other people are reporting similar issues I'm thinking it's probably just the straps being too short. We have a Graco Nautilis in our other car and there are no issues with it.

I have a britax pavillion and a tall dd with no issues at all with strap length. Maybe its just the seat? Ive usdd britax products since dd was born and couldnt be happier with them.

I recall a similar issue where Britax provided longer straps for free. Call them before buying a new seat.

This happened with our Britax too. We switched 4.5 yo DC into a 5 point harnessed booster seat as DC was well over the weight and height requirements anyway, but we didn't feel comfortable switching into the booster without the harness yet.
