Thought of a way to help LI economy & taxes....
DH and I are currently in Disney.
We drove down 95 over the weekend and saw so many Long Islanders on the road.
We joked that they should build something Disney on LI since there are so many going and maybe it would help with taxes and the economy.
I know this would suck with traffic though!!!
Maybe some kind unique park where they could do winter things too!
I haven't been here in years and I know most people either love it or hate it when it comes to Disney, but it's also nice to see so many workers who seem enthused about coming to work....

If they ever even tried that I would move off this island ASAP! It's already INSANE here with the traffic and number of people who live here, a "NY Disney" would be the LAST thing this island needs. I LOVE Disney but I wouldn't want that here!

There was a proposal to do something big along those lines at the old Grumman facility (indoor skiing, as well as lots of other activities), but it got turned down.
Land is $$$ on LI. Walt Disney bought tons of acres of literal swampland, using many different shadow companies so people didn't realize it was just one company buying all the land.
People complain about the traffic that would be created by adding a Chik-fil-A to a neighborhood, just imagine the outrage about creating a huge amusement park!

OMG like we don't have enough traffic and cars on the road here on a normal day.

It would be the end of us.

Yeah.
You're probably right.
I don't think LI would ever be organized enough and able to get their shit together to do it.

Couldn't even get the lighthouse approved at the coliseum because of traffic concerns. No way anything Disney would be approved

So funny you say this...we were in Disney last week & saw a car from my DH's dealership in front of us on World Drive. Talk about "It's a small world"... queue song...

It would definitely be nice to have a fun family amusement park nearby, but I already can't stand the amount of traffic on long island, so I wouldn't want to see how bad it would be if tons of tourists were swarming to the area. And I agree with the other posters who said it would probably never get approved. St James just made a huge deal fighting a new CVS being built.
