Punta Cana weather
Does anyone know if the forecast on weather.com is 80% chance precipitation and scattered thunderstorms all next week is our trip going to be a wash? OR is it typical to have a forecast like this (I have heard short bursts of rain but the it clears up) and I shouldn't worry!?

The weather can change so much and in the Caribbean it can rain for like 15minutes and be sunny like nothing happened. Unless there is a hurricane nearby or there, that's the only thing that will continuously effect the weather. Actually there was a hurricane last year when I went to Punta Cana, we were still hanging out in the pool, the only thing effected was the beach - waves were harsh and choppy, and we couldn't go Parasailing. It was still hot even with the little Breeze and overcast.
Don't stress, you still have time and weather will change.

The forecast on weather.com is notoriously inaccurate- ESPECIALLY more than 1-2 days out.
Don't even look at it.

It's the rainy season right now, so it probably is accurate.
Plus, Tropical Storm Danny is heading towards that area and it is expected to turn into a hurricane.
That's what my friends in the USVI's are saying.

It IS the rainy season there, so I wouldn't be surprised if it rains during your stay. When we went, we had a forecast for rain every single day. Most days it rained for less than 10 minutes. I guess that might not be the case if the tropical storm hits while you're there! Good luck! Lots of sunny weather vibes!  
ETA: As for the ocean, it was REALLY rough while we were there. We didn't go in except to dip our feet in. But there was a mile-long pool at the resort, so we didn't care at all!

Punta Cana weather
According to NOAA, Hurricane Danny is headed straight to the DR area sometime around Tuesday-Wednesday.

Uh yeah just saw that. I went on my first and only cruise during Hurricane Irene the same week 5 years ago! Shiite I though I would get lucky this time!

We had better weather than we expected and better than we could ask for!
Sun, sun, some more sun with a couple of quick downpours while in the pool lol! Then a much needed washout day (DD had sunburn and we needed to get out of the sun) and then 3 more days of sun!!

When I was going there it said the same thing on the forecast before we left.
It's tropical so turns out, they usually get a little something each day.
When we were actually there each day it would be sunny from sun up in the AM until around 1-2pm, somewhere in there. Then, it would cloud over, DARK clouds, it would storm for about 25-30 minutes, pour rain, wind, and then bam! Clear up for the rest of the day.
This happened each day  we would just go to lunch at that time
