awful poop one month after antibiotics

My son is 16 Months and was on Amox last month for an ear infection. His poop is still out of control! Very loose and watery or mushy and light yellow. Sorry TMI!

I have called before when have was on antibiotics and had bad poop for almost 2 months. Was told its normal and give probiotics.

Did anyone ever experience this? If so, did they test poop? Or say it could be something of
Concern?

Could it be teething? My 13 month old gets loose stools when teething. I think from all excess saliva. It's going on now. He poops a few times a day and similar to how you are describing. I guess it could be the antibiotics though if it did kill all the 'good' bacteria in his stomach. Probiotics would be the way to go.

Any time my kids are on antibiotics my pediatrician reminds me to start probiotics. I keep my kids on them all the time now. I would try that first...make sure you get the refrigerated ones.

Have their stool checked for C. DIFF. It is a virus that can be caused by antibiotics that also won't go away without antibiotics. We are currently treating my son for the virus and he had symptoms just like you described.

Antibiotics literally kill all good and bad bacteria. It can take months for the good bacteria to build back up. High doses of quality probiotics can help. I never give an antibiotic without a probiotic 2 hours after. But we take them every day anyway and triple up if an antibiotic is needed. Otherwise my dd breaks out in ezcema.
