Going old school- what were your favorite "goody bag" treats?

I have been stressing over favors for DS' monster truck bday party. I just realized this is so effing stupid. When did favors for a kids bday party get so extravagant and coordinating to a theme? I remember getting goody bags full of tooth rotting treats and being thrilled. I decided I'm not succumbing to Pinterest pressure And every kid is getting a bag loaded with delicious crap.

So I'm going old school. What were your favorite things in a goody bag? Those candy dots on the paper? Pixie sticks?

Yeah man! People get too crazy with that nonsense. lol. Candy is perfect! I loved those dot on paper ones. haha! Totally forgot those even existed. Remember those weird candy cigarettes? Do they still make those? I was going to say the candy necklaces were another favorite, but since this is a boy's party what about cute pez dispensers (obv with refills). Chat Icon Lollypops, chocolates. I really don't think you could go wrong just roaming down the candy aisle and picking your favorites. Maybe a couple of those cheapo dollar toys thrown in there as well (bubbles, etc).

oh man, candy was the best! Or those silly pencils that had multiple tips that would push through, they were similar to the idea of the mechanical pencils, but you would push each one through - probably not describing it right. Silly little nicknacks from the dollar store.

ETA: and stickers!!!! especially the bubble stickers or scratch n sniff stickers.

wait, people don't put candy in goody bags anymore???

my kids are too young so I haven't been involved in kids birthday parties for a while.

I liked the dots on paper, not sure why because I think I consumed just as much paper as I did the candy. haha

Definitely agree with the Fun Dip! I loved the taste of the white stick more than the powder -- yummy! I also like Pixie Sticks and Ring Pops!

I went to five below, and got magic kits that were $2 each. I paired them up with a ring pop and a package of model magic that I had from another party. So the goodie bags cost about $3 each. I got a pack of thirty clear bags with twist ties for a dollar. Party city had the ring pops.

Lollipops!!!

Just a word of caution - please be careful about any chocolates you may put in the bags. Many kids (my son included) have nut allergies, and I prefer not having to take candy away from my son so that he feels "different." I definitely appreciate when parents just avoid those foods.

For my son's birthday 4th coming up, I bought those invisible ink books. I got them at five below for $3. each. I hate getting candy also.

I don't do favors.

After I stopped with the insanity: all our cousins stopped too.
