Re: Homeowners Insurance -- Where Do I begin?

Allstate wouldn't insure us because we don't use them for car insurance

I tried Liberty Mutual but they wouldn't insure me because our oil tank is outside.
I have state farm. My husband uses them for car insurance.

State Farm. I've shopped this all over the place. They were the best value for the money.

I have state farm - many of the others insist on doing a credit check and want your social security number before they will even give you a quote - State Farm doesn't (0r at least didn't two years ago when we bought our home). There rates are very competitive.

Re: Homeowners Insurance -- Where Do I begin?

Just do an internet search and be sure to compare comparible policies. We have Liberty Mutual and then ended up doing auto with them too - having auto with your home can reduce the cost too.

I would start with your car insurance provider. Many times you will get a multiple policy discount.

Re: Homeowners Insurance -- Where Do I begin?

I've had Traveler's for years and just put in my first claim two weeks ago because of a pipe that burst. The adjustor was at my home within 2 days and I had a check for substantially more than I thought I would be reimbursed for 5 days after that. They were most helpful and I would recommend them.

Allstate isn't doing any new Homeowners policies in NY anymore since Katrina.

Re: Homeowners Insurance -- Where Do I begin?

I don't know if NY AAA(the car assistance people) does insurance but here in CA it does. Our homeowners is only 640 a year and our house is 1800 sq ft.
