Any other Verizon Employee Families on here?
With the threat of a strike looming I was wondering if there were any other families on here who may want to form an informal support group....even just to have someone to talk to who is in the same situation.
Frankly.....I'm scared out of my mind!

Can I ask why you are scared? Has your family been through it before? They are scheduled a long time in advance so you have a lot of notice about the length of the contract.

Can I ask why you are scared? Has your family been through it before? They are scheduled a long time in advance so you have a lot of notice about the length of the contract.
I only work part-time with no benefits so losing my husband's salary for the length of a strike is scary.

They are still in negoitations but the two sides are far from an agreement.

is he eligible for any union pay if on strike? Can you cobra or are benefits given by the month? If they are monthly then not going on strike on 8/1 would mean benefits for august? Has a strike been declared? I thought they said they would negotiate still.

Yes, my husband. I'm not overly worried but he saves between contracts so has about 4 weeks of salary saved in that account and then we have our regular savings. Last strike I was very stressed as I was on maternity leave. I've been with dh since 2001 and I believe they've only been on strike once in that time. In my personal opinion, it makes more sense to not strike for different reasons. Hopefully they'll continue to work through. Try not to worry too much!!

Yes but on the other side, they will be forced to work many hours to cover the people on strike. These things happen like clockwork and has been settled pretty quickly in recent history.
