I don't think it's a good deal at all by the time you buy your points (and finance charges if you don't pay in full) and pay the maintenance fees each year. Maybe way back when the points and maintenance costs were cheaper. DVC owners will tell you otherwise though I've learned ;)

Re: Disney Vacation Club
It's really a personal choice. I know people who have it and people who go to Disney 3X a year and say it's not worth it.
Another option which we do, is rent someone's DVC points through David's Vacation Club. You get the DVC rooms & benefits for the most part (You don't get the discount card). We wanted a one bedroom with kitchen, washer/dryer, etc.. so my DS slept on the pull out and we slept in the bedroom, I priced it through the actual Hotel vs. David's and it was almost 40% savings!
Just do your research. Also, from what I heard the only place you can buy DVC right now is at Bay Lake Towers and it's very $$$ unless you buy re-sale.

Re: Disney Vacation Club
We own DVC and love it. I've owned it for about 12 years now. We use it all the time.
As to whether or not it's "worth it" really depends on what you pay, how you like to vacation, etc. For us, it's great. I don't know if it's a great deal now. I paid under $100 a point. The current direct from Disney price is I believe $165. On top of that, there is a yearly maintenance fee. The fee is assessed by your home resort and depends on how many points you own.
There are lots of websites that help you do the math on how many vacations you have to take to make it worthwhile, etc.
I will say that for us it's definitely worth it. It may not be for everyone though. I think a lot of people get caught up in the "Disney" part of it and don't realize, it's just a timeshare. It's only worth it if you're going to use it.
