Is 10 days in Disney too much?
I'm about to book a Disney adventure for next year. DD will be 5.5, DS will be days short of 3. I wanted to do a big-sha-bang before she starts Kindergarten and can't pull her out of school full-time (she starts next sept).
So right now I have us driving down in mid-April (14.5 hours from MD) and staying in Orlando for 11 nights/10 days.
We're staying off-site in a 3BR condo and my parents will join us half way through the trip.
I wanted to stay a long time because it's a long drive and with two small kids I didn't want to rush them through the parks... this way we can go to each park multiple times without a lot of pressure.
But, hours away from putting down the deposit I'm starting to have some doubts. Will that be TOO long? Will we be bored after day 6 because we've done the major attractions already? Will going back and forth to the parks get old and exhausting? We'll build in some relax days but will that be enough to keep it fun for all?
FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS!!!!

Re: Is 10 days in Disney too much?
Maybe spend some of the time at the beach just to mix it up a little? I think I would lose my mind from 10 days at Disney, but if you had some relaxing days to hang by the pool, explore the different hotels, do other things in the area, etc it might be nice

That would be much too long for me lol. But there are other things in Orlando you can do especially if you're staying off site and have a car. You can do universal, take a day trip to one of the beaches (Daytona, cocoa), legoland

I personally don't think it's too much but that's just me. I agree with maybe looking into a day at Legoland and/or Universal.
If you do stick with doing all 10 days at Disney though a great way to do it would be just spend mornings and early afternoons at the parks. Then go back to your condo for lunch and relaxing time. You could also do a day or two where you sleep late and head to the parks late afternoon and stay for fireworks.

Personally, i could move to Disney and never get bored. But that's just me. With that much time, I do think you have enough time to spend a day or two at Universal, for sure. That sounds like an AMAZING vacation to me!

Re: Is 10 days in Disney too much?
I would do a 5 day park hopper. That is plenty of time for you to do all the parks and go back maybe at night to enjoy the fireworks or parades. The rest of the days I would relax by the pools, take a trip to Daytona Beach another day. You can go to Universal city walk or Downtown disney another day. Have fun and Enjoy!! I just came back. was there for 7 days we also drove. I wish it were 10 days.

Dear lord I could never do Disney or the Orlando area for that long, but then again I'm not a Disney person. I can only handle a couple days.

I think that's fine - I wouldn't do the whole time at the parks but, with a couple of days to relax, it would be great.
After a certain number of days, it's not much money to add an extra day to your park ticket.
And there are a lot of other things to do in the area as well.

A 10 day vacation sounds glorious, but like others have said, mix it up. I'd do 5 days at Disney and then the other 5 at the beach/pool, Universal, etc. Sounds like its going to be a grest trip!

Re: Is 10 days in Disney too much?
I think it is way too long.
I'd def split up the trip with a beach. Naples & ft Lauderdale are only a short drive away. Alternately, sightsee on the way down or up from home.
Assuming you spend 2 days at Magic kingdom, 1 day at other 2 parks each... That's 4 days. Maybe another day at Lego land... 5 days! Even if you leave days inbetween... It won't kill you, but IMO, unnecessary.

We have done 10 days a few times and it's been great. No rushing to see everything and time to do waterparks. We are Disney fans though

Off site no not too long. On site yes!
You can do a few park day spread out and then stay a the resort and swim etc. Not sure where you are thinking of staying but we stayed at Orange Lake for 7 days and only went to Disney for one day. Plenty to keep kids busy.

Re: Is 10 days in Disney too much?
Mel we went first week of Dec and did 7 days and I am shocked to say, we didn't want to leave! We didn't go nuts, was a pretty relaxing trip all & all and maybe that is why we could have stayed longer.
We woke up when we woke up, didn't rush and got to the parks when the doors opened. We didn't stay till the park closed every night, we always left went back to the room and then went for a nice sit down dinner. We spent time in Downtown Disney, we spent a day just relaxing at the pool.
You can even take a trip to Lego Land to break it up.
There really is so much to see and do there, I can't see you being bored.
We are NOT Disney people and loved it, I think it's all how you plan the trip.

Good to know, Bari!! Back in the day, DH and I could have easily spent 40 days in Europe, now I'm wondering if we'll be on suicide watch after 4 in Disney. But, yeah, I think taking it slow and relaxing will be key, I know my family won't want to deal with ME if I get into "we have 3 minutes to get over to Small World LETS GO" mode

We do plan on staying off-site, in a house with its own pool which I think will be our saving grace I'm also banking on the cheesy tourist attractions and shops outside of Disney to kill an afternoon

Re: Is 10 days in Disney too much?
We do 10 nights when we go, but we aren't at disney the whole time. We take a day off in between to rest. We drive from NY and take 1-2 nights going to down to sight see... We have been doing this for 4 years now and even went last yer when my son was in Kindergarten. He miss 8 days of school. Went in November during 2 off days of school..... We stay off property too. There is plenty to do that is off property to keep busy...

Re: Is 10 days in Disney too much?
No way it's too long!!!!! The past two times we went we were there for 10 days and it was AWESOME!! We didn't feel rushed, we got to see everything, and go back to the parks multiple times. I LOVED it!!! The last time we went and stayed 10 days was this past November and DD was 6 yrs old, DS 1.5 yrs old.
ETA - We did parks the WHOLE time we were there, 1 day at Universal/Islands of Adventure and the rest of the time at the Disney Parks and Downtown Disney. NEVER enough Disney for me!!

For me that would be way too long, but I don't like being away from home that long. One week of vacation is the most we do. As far as Disney- we have taken the kids to Disney and did 4 nights/5 days and that was enough for us but every family is different. We are not huge Disney people.

Re: Is 10 days in Disney too much?
I think it is way too long but our sweet spot is 5 days. We have been to Disney 5x and each time we went 3 theme parks was the max for us. We have even let paid tickets go unused because we had enough at Disney.

Re: Is 10 days in Disney too much?
10 days in the parks sounds like torture to me. I LOVE Disney - but that is a LONG time to go back and forth to that insanity, every day, with two little kids -
I'd suggest breaking it up - spend a day hanging out at the pool, do Magic Kindgom, do 1/2 day at Animal Kingdom and the rest at the pool .......take a day trip to the beach, etc. but 10 straight days in a Disney Park ..........no WAY

Thanks everyone, I booked it
As I said in my OP, I do plan on building in some relax days, not non-stop parks... I'm not on a suicide mission
