Swim lessons-commack or Huntington area
Ds is 4 and I'm thinking it's time for lessons. Any reasonable places?

I think the YMCA is great and very affordable. You can either do individual or class lessons. My son went from being afraid to even get his face wet, to jumping into the deep end without any flotation bubble.
There is SafeTSwim in Commack and I know some people LOVE it but I despised it. In my opinion I paid a ton of money for a different teenager each week to drag my screaming son around the pool by his arms.

I've done both of these…..the Y was his first experience at around 3.5. Was good because I was able to get in with him. Just did the Commack saf-t-swim this spring (DS is 4 now) and it was good. I wasn't allowed in with him - but they legitimately worked with him on treading water, kicking and all that.
Both were reasonably priced, IMO.

Yes the child taking lessons needs to buy a child membership. I think its around $80 for the year.

I know someone in east nopo that does private lessons. For over 16 years and she's certified. $30 per 30m session. Pool is in ground and heated.

On FB, there's a Harborfields group where someone's been posting about offering private lessons. Not sure if it's at her house or if it assumes you have a pool - - but she's local (and certified). The group is named "Harborfields Family" if you're interested.

That's a private group that only district residents can join though.
To the OP, you can do private lessons at the YMCA or Safety swim in Commack or Smithtown. I have done the Y and I now do Safety swim in Smithtown.

The jcc in commack has swim lessons, it's not safety swim. My dd goes and it's great. You don't have to join.

I have done both.
DS was 3 when he did group lessons at YMCA and it was fine, some kids did okay but he really didnt learn anything there. They use floats on the kids and I think he was just comfortable with using the floats and chatting with the other kids in the class.
Then we did STS in commack and with no float, and one on one attention, he learned to swim almost immediately.
I think you get more bang for your buck from saf T Swim YMCA is cheaper but only if you keep signing up because you need to pay a yearly program fee and then you need to sign up for the lessons as well. If you do one session and quit then its not such a bargin.
We went to Saf t swim in commack for over a year with both my sons and never had any issues at all.
