Few questions:
Do you drive straight through or break up the drive?

What time do you leave?

We are staying in Corolla. Anything I should know about the area? Local places to go?

Trying to plan and have never done this before. Thanks!

I am here now. We drive straight through. It was only 8.5 hrs. Not work breaking up IMO.

We are in Southern Shores so I have no recs yet. Only been here 2 days

Re: For those who go to the Outer Banks

We just came back from Corolla a few weeks ago. Had such a great time! We stayed right by the beach, so our days were mainly beach, pool, etc. There's a Harry & Teeters I think that's the name, big supermarket in the area so you can get everything. There's a bunch of other stores right by there also in that same strip mall. We went mini golfing one night which was really fun, also by this same area. We had the best time there and can't wait to go back to OBX again.

Re: drive, we had our 10 month old with us and our dog, so we broke up the trip into three - would drive 2-3 hrs, stop, drive again, etc. We left early in the morning. Same on the way back, we left at like 5:30 or 6am in the morning - since almost everyone leaves by 8-10 once they check-out on Saturdays.

Love the Outer Banks! We've gone several times and I really like staying in Corolla. There is lots of shopping, mini-golf, water sports all up and down the main highway.
There is a really great restaurant in Nags Head called Kelly's.
We usually make a couple short stops along the way just to stretch our legs.
There will be lots of traffic on check-in and check-out days.
Have fun!

Besides a house for a week do you guys have any recommendations for a hotel for a long weekend in mid to late Sept. Would love if it was dog friendly.

Since all the rentals run sat to sat the traffic on the island and the causeway is rough. We left at 4 am and it took just over 9 hrs including a stop for breakfast and a quick pee stop later on

OK thanks, that's not so bad. My only issue with doing that is we will get to NC too early and rental isn;t available until 3 or 4. I'd say we can beach it or something but we will have our dog. I'm thinking to go later in the day and arrive Saturday night. Do you think the traffic in the OTB is bad in the evening/night as well?

Re: For those who go to the Outer Banks

I think you will hit a lot of traffic that way. We went early and found a place to eat that had outside stuff. That way you could bring the dog. Sometimes the houses are ready early. If it's a hotel you could ask for early check in.
