Potty Training- Where do I start???

My DD is my first.. I THINK she is ready to begin potty training. She hides to poop and pulls her diaper off immediately after. She is only 15 months old though...

I just am clueless on where to start!! Any advice would be appreciated!!

I agree w 3 day method, but your kid is very young.
Is she old enough to tell you when she has to go yet?
Youngest I personally know of someone doing it is 18 mo.

I'm no expert, did isn't trained yet but here's how we've started since you asked.

Honestly I think 15 months is too young. Not sure if developmentally they really have control at that age. It's a big mind body connection and the child has to be physically able to control it, which as I understand can vary from kid to kid.

For DD 2nd bday we gave her a potty and book about potty and potty time Elmo. She is in daycare so there is a lot of talk and hoopla over the potty during her regular day.

At first we made a big horray about how fun and special the potty was. She got excited and wanted to try it. I do t think she even went the first few times but we practiced the process - wipe-flush-wash hands. I let her and encourage her to watch me pee pee like a big girl on the potty. We talk about the older girls (who she loves and admires) at school who use the potty. School also encourages her to try and uses sticker chart.

Very gradually we encouraged potty whenever she wanted but no pressure. It was more like a fun thing to do. I got a poster board that she helped decorate and I wrote potty chart on. Hung it on wall next to bathroom. She gets 1 sticker each pee and 2 each poop. Each time it's a big hooray, hug kiss, let's call grandma and tell her etc celebration but still no pressure.

So for 6 months we have just done casual encouragement and she really likes it and going more and more. I think she is ready now as she actually asks to go sometimes. In 2 weeks my mom is coming and we are going to do the 3 day method. I just put her in pull ups in the last week and will go to underware with boot camp.

Hiding to poop is very common, but isn't always an indicator of being potty-training ready. Especially at 15 months.

My kids did that, but neither of them were trained until closer to 3.

It definitely doesn't hurt to introduce the idea of the potty and show her what goes on in there, have her watch you, etc. But, I'm not sure that a 15 month old has the communication skills and physical capability to be fully trained.

Is she very verbal?

She is very verbal. She started asking for specific drinks not just a "cup" anymore. She will say Milk cup or Water Cup. She asks to go outside and for snacks. I figured I will try it this summer before I go back to work since I am home with her 24/7 and can work with her. I just don't want her to feel pressured, so I will try it and if it doesn't work then it doesn't work.

Im no expert... i went slow with my dd. Shes trained and it just happened naturally.
When she first showed signs of interest i bought a potty. She went in and out of showing interest. Around 2 i tried to potty train and she just wasnt ready. Cried for her diapers after a few hours the 1st day. And i know my dd she wasnt ready. Fast forwars a year about 1 month before she turned 3 she was asking about panties i put her in panties and within a few hours she got it. We never looked back.
My advice is dont force it. Your dd is very young get her a potty see if she shows any interest in it. If she does great if she doesnt thats ok. Forcing them when they arent ready only stresses you out and will give your child negative feeling about it.
Ive always taken a laid back approach cause i always knew my dd would do it (and i mean everything) when shes ready. I try not to stress about things with her.

I too think that may be a tad too young. A lot of my friends who trained early (18 mos) - their kids regressed later on ans went back to diapers. Maybe introduce the potty but I don't think they really have control over their bladder thàt early. My Ped told me closer to 3 is better to start training.

Some who have an older sibling may train earlier... I have heard of that!
