Best Hotel not on Disney Property
Looking to go to Disney in October but there isn't much availability for a family of 5 for our dates on property. We will have a car regardless. Any great experiences with off property hotels? Cleanliness is vital, activities for the kids (9,7,6) would be great. Thanks.

Four Seasons opened up last year and it is a truly excellent hotel. Highly recommend it.

JW Marriott Grande Lakes or Ritz. Both hotels share the property. We've stayed at both and enjoyed both immensely. They have a great lazy river too. awesome service.

Re: Best Hotel not on Disney Property
We've stayed at Orange Lake and Marriott Grande Vista...I liked both enough to go back to either without a question...I liked the location of Orange Lake more, but Grande Vista was walkable, which was nice.

Re: Best Hotel not on Disney Property
I was looking at the Ritz or the 4 Seasons or the Waldorf Astoria Orlando
But I still don't think I can bring myself to do Disney World.
Probably will go to LA and do Disneyland for one day to say we did it for DD

Same. We stayed there in 2013 and for a 2bed 2 bath suite with full kitchen, balcony, washer, dryer etc, it was priced nearly the same as staying at the Pop Century on Disney property. WE booked through costcotravel.com
We will stay there again our next visit without hesitation!

Re: Best Hotel not on Disney Property
I agree that Orange Lake would fit your needs.
We stayed there a few years ago with my in laws who have a time share there and the house we stayed in was immaculate.
I'll share my standard caveat with Orange Lake though - make sure you book your location within the property carefully. My MIL booked the room and our unit was not within walking distance to anything at all. It didn't bother us because we were there for the parks, but DH and I both felt it would have been annoying to have to drive over to the pool. Part of vacationing in a warm place, to me, is being able to walk to the pool. Otherwise it resembles being home too much; actually our town pool is closer than the pool was at Orange Lake! I just mention this because you were looking for activities.

I would go for Wyndham Bonnet Creek. You can rent it inexpensively on ebay or other timeshare rental sites. It's within the gates of Disney, and since you have a car, transportation isn't an issue (they have a paid shuttle). Lots of kids activities there, and you won't spend a huge amount of time driving to the parks, and potentially sitting in traffic in the more congested areas.

Re: Best Hotel not on Disney Property
I'd highly consider the universal hotels with that age range! Hotels are gorgeous, pools are amazing & Universal has pretty awesome parks w great perks of you stay on property (essentially fast pass to everything).
All other suggestions are good too. I've only had a bad experience at the Disney hotels (and have stayed at hotels in the area ranging from $30-$300 a night). Gasp... Even the $30 rooms were fine (though this was a last minute deal found before I got married).

Re: Best Hotel not on Disney Property
With a family of 5, I would definitely look into a timeshare property- you will get more space and bang for your buck. We own at Orange Lake and love it. We got my BIL a unit up the street at Summer Bay. It was much smaller, but very family friendly with activities.

Not a hotel, but we've rented homes from All Star Vacation Homes in the past. Great properties, a lot of bang for your buck and you save on food b/c you have a full kitchen.
