Anyone have kids in Longwood Schools?

DH and I saw a house over the weekend that we are seriously considering putting an offer on. We are unfamiliar with this school district. From what I understand, the elementary school (West Middle Island) is very good. My friend has her kids there. I dont know anything about the district though. I went to Sachem and DH went to Middle Country. Any info you guys could provide would be fantastic! Thanks!

I am in a neighboring district, but I have quite a few friends with kids there who are very happy. It's a very diverse district, but my friends have middle schoolers and high schoolers and have nothing but good things to say.

Re: Anyone have kids in Longwood Schools?

You can look up STATS on Newsday.com and compare it to other districts.

Personally, I did not choose that district for my son.

But I went by the STATS from Newsday and GreatSchools and sites like that.

I found them to be very helpful. HTH! GL! Chat Icon

Large district, diverse...great sports and academics. A few years back my boys went to one of the elementary schools and we had no issues.

I live in the longwood district my kids are no longer in school but I can tell you several of my neighbors with kids in school are teachers, police officers and even a professor. The district has a reputation that doesn't make a lot of sense, if it was so bad, unsafe, etc why would my well educated neighbors(some educators themselves in "better districts") send their own kids to longwood?
I do know we have a lot to offer in terms of special Ed, athletics, activities, a planetarium in one of the schools, a budget that always passes and amazing library that is being rebuilt and will surely be one of the best in Suffolk.

I do not live there but we considered it and it's a great district with excellent resources. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase there but I value diversity in an academic setting.

We just moved into the district 4 years ago. My oldest is almost 3 so I'm not there yet, but this made me feel so much better about our decision. We heard a lot of positive and negative views, but I think people just know it as a diverse school and make assumptions! So thanks for that!!
