Howard Stern quits America's Got Talent... after being offered another 'great' TV opportunity
Howard Stern won't be returning as a judge on America's Got Talent after season 10, he revealed on his SiriusXM show Wednesday morning.
The 61-year-old media personality has been offered another opportunity in television and something has got to give to free up his schedule.
Stern stated on The Howard Stern Show: 'I have been made an offer in television that excites me. Excites me to no end. I think it would be a great opportunity. But I can't do America's Got Talent, the radio show, and the television opportunity.'
He will be eliminating America's Got Talent from his schedule, asserting a couple times, 'This is my last season.'
Stern also added that he's 'too f**king busy this year,' and 'I got to have a break in my schedule' – launching into the topic at the 20:54 mark of his show.
He has served for four seasons on the reality competition series, beginning his judging stint in 2012.
Stern currently judges alongside Heidi Klum, Mel B, and Howie Mandel, with Nick Cannon playing host.
He added that NBC asked that he make a decision by July 4th, so that they can begin booking venues in Los Angeles should he choose not to return.
America's Got Talent had moved its live shows to Stern's home base of New York City so that he could continue with his SiriusXM show.
According to Stern, NBC was welcoming him back to the show for another season with open arms.
However, he is moving on, recommending Simon Cowell as a solid replacement judge. 'Simon Cowell wants it anyway. He would be good at it,' Stern said.
Cowell executive produces America's Got Talent and owns the Got Talent franchise.
Stern reflected upon the positive impact he has made on the series.
'I think if I had any effect on the show, it would be to elevate the show and have it be taken more seriously,' he said.
Stern was previously hesitant to reprise his judging role for a third season.
'I've been working a long time. I really wanted to decide if this was going to take away too much … free time,' he said on his SiriusXM show in 2013.
'Did I really still enjoy doing it? Did I have something to say? Is it something I should be involved with still?'
He remained on for a fourth season, sharing his reasons for doing so in a press release for season 10.
'I decided that a life without AGT is not a life worth living. America needs a caring, compassionate and wise judge and who am I to deny the people what they want? It would be selfish of me to walk away,' he said.

Please not Simon Cowell. I feel he will ruin the whole "dynamic" of the judges. He's too serious.
This replacement judge better mend well with these 3. I really loved all of them together. I never had a panel of judges who made me laugh so much.

I hope this means he is renewing his contract with Sirius!!! I love him on AGT but love him more on his own show!

I was watching The Today Show this morning and they were speculating that he may be doing The Apprentice because Donald Trump will be leaving to focus on running for president.
No idea if it's true.

I'm not a huge Stern fan, but I think that would be amazing.
Like Trump, he is smart, blunt, impatient, sometimes offensive & very successful, but not as stuffy.

I agree! I'm glad he's not going to judge again. I'm tired of hearing him talk about it.

YES! He is adorable on the show! I love how he interacts with the guests and really seems to have fun.

I don't think that is it. He said that 2 networks came to him with basically the same idea and they didn't know about each other. So if it was a replacement for Trump that would only be one network.

Agreed!
And im a long time listener, in kinda sick of every time his contract is up somewhere for a year we have to hear how he may not be coming back. Just negotiate your contract, make an announcement and enough with the bs. I adore him but that just feels so phony when they all sit there going oo i have no idea what hes going to do. I have no idea if i have a job. Cmon feels very show bizzy phony.
