How long did you give your newborn Ready To Feed before switching to Powder?

My son was on breastmilk for 10 days and due to complications I had to switch to formula. think I had a couple of ready feed bottles from the hospital that we used to supplement while I breastfed but we switched right away to powder and there were no issues.

Re: Formula Mommas
I'm no help, my son was always RTF... we tried giving him powder at a month, but he did not react well. (and eventually ended up on Alimentum).

Yes pretty much used powder right away. My pediatrician said it doesn't matter.

Same here. We gave him the RTF in the hospital (I never BF) and it was Similac Blue. Fine. We come home, I used what I had as gifts and then went to switch to powder because it was cheaper. Doc said I didn't have to transition - just go from RTF to powder, it'll be fine. Well, my son HATED the powder - even at such a young age he knew immediately that it was different, barely wanted to drink it, and what he did drink gave him horrible gas and made him spit up.
And this is not a jab on powder - I have had friends who gave their baby powder and they were great with it and had a horrible reaction to the RTF. Each child is different. But, for my son, he needed that RTF the entire time. When the Blue made him too gassy we switched to Similac RTF Orange Sensitive formula. That was the winner and we stuck with that until he was all done with formula.

This! DD was actually better on powder formula. Still to this day, more than 8oz of RTF a day, and 2-3 days after, she's really constipated. The powder works much better for her (and is significantly cheaper for us!) She's on the BJ's brand powder and no issues at all (and it's $21.99 for a big container -- 50% more powder in it than the name brands).

Re: Formula Mommas
I tried one time cause we had switched insurances and the ready to feed was no longer covered (Similac Alimentum), DS would not drink at all no matter how much I tried, so I went back to give him ready to feed and had to suck it up and pay for it til he stopped drinking formula.

This. No one ever mentioned anything different. And he was 4 weeks early - after we switched him, I noticed on the box for the powder it mentions maybe not using for premies... woops. DS has been fantastic.

My DS spit up if he had the RTF. Was great on powder.

Thanks Ladies! When I had DD, my Ped said to give her the RTF until she was at least 8 weeks old. I was thinking about just switching to the Powder once we came home from the hospital and ran out of the RTF because it's so expensive to keep giving the RTF.
I was also going to look into buying either the BJs Brand Powder or the Target Brand Powder. Not sure which is cheaper.

As soon as we ran out of the supply the hospital gave us so less than a week. We went right over to Up & Up powder.
