How to handle..

My 5 year old was talking about a kid in school and when I asked who he was she said he has a "brown face". She didn't say it like she was noticing a difference (I would equate it to her saying "the boy in the blue shirt), it was just very matter of fact. (And I assure you that neither me or DH or her grandparents who watch her refer to anyone like that). I just ignored it, because I wasn't sure how to respond, if she says something like that again, What should I say??

My son did something similar at the start of this school year. He is going to a diverse pre-k & I asked him if he noticed a boy in his class who has the same backpack and he asked me which boy, what color is his skin. I answered him but then kind of mentioned that there are many different skin colors. And that even between DS & I, DS' skin is darker than mine so the best way to speak about someone is by finding their name out or describing their outfit. He was accepting of that answer & hasn't said anything else regarding skin color.
