Yes, I was not clear at ALL.
My first reaction was "WOW, I was garbage picked".
Second was "Do "they" do this and "case" homes"
Third was "well, they DID do me a favor as I was worried the GM would not pick it up".
And finally: relief that all the other posters are telling me this happens all the time.

We put out our old BBQ and someone took the top. The lid you close, that part and nothing else. We thought that was weird

I was
I don't like the idea of people going through my garbage or recycle bin. I feel as if is an invasion of my space. They sell it all for BIG $$ since the scrap place goes by weight. It's actual a good way to make extra cash.

I think people just sell it for scrap metal. We had our dryer caught on fine and someone took it lol

There are some people where all they do is drive around looking for scrap. They usually do it late at night or early AM; when they know its a "garbage day".
I am sure they cash all this stuff in or some things depending on what it is; people like to refurbish.
I really wouldn't put too much worry in it. It happens more often than you know; and its harmless.
this, in my area that stuff never makes it to the actual garbage truck
