Real estate sale
We sold our house and closed last week. Is it customary to send our agent or attorney a small gift? If it matters, we gave our agent a rather expensive item we couldn't take with us. Oh and we sold for a lot less than we bought for, so nothing really to jump for joy over
Not sure why I have this on my mind, but figured I'd check here.
Thanks!

I didn't send either anything. They both got paid to do what they did.

Re: Real estate sale
They got paid a SHIT TON of money - to me, that was gift enough.
I liked them and they did a great job by me so to me, in addition to their fee, a recommendation to use them is a nice thank you. And I always tell people how great they were - especially my attorney, James Clark. He is just wonderful.

Real estate sale
When I sold my co-op, I did not send a gift to my RE. When DH and I bought our house, our RE was AMAZING (went way way above and beyond what was expected or necessary). We got her a gift certificate to a local restaurant. I do not think it is necessary to do that, at all. She just really did so much more than we ever would have expected and so wanted to show our appreciation.

The best give you can ever give is referring people to them.

Re: Real estate sale
I feel like it's generally the other way around. If anything, usually the realtor gets YOU a little gift. When we bought our current place, our realtor gave us a GC to Home Depot. When I bought my very first home (new construction) my realtor gave us the post and mailbox.
In this case, since you sold, your realtor made money off of you. That to me is their gift. However, if they did a good job for you, I would definitely spread the word and recommend them to people. We adore our realtor (he really goes above and beyond for us and has become more than just a realtor but also a friend). We've recommended him to several people already!

Re: Real estate sale
As realtor a few clients have given me gift cards, usually at the closing. It was always very much appreciated but absolutely not necessary.
