Birthday party opinions

So dds birthday party is coming up. Typically they have them play for 45 minutes, bring them out of the play space for pizza and cake and then let them play for another half hour/20 minutes or so.

Or. We can ask to have them end on the pizza and cake. It's easier for the staff bc everyone is already out in the lobby, but I'm thinking it would run smoother than going back and forth. They think it's better the other way bc kids end on a high note of playing.

Which would you prefer?

hmmm, I thought most kid parties end with the pizza and cake.

are parents going to be there the whole time with their kid? bc if I was a parent at the party I'd start packing my kid up to leave after the cake. I would not expect to have more play/party time.

Parents will be there the whole time. Nobody needs to be packed up, or even get their shoes back on...edit. For the pizza and cake I mean.

But I totally get what you're saying. They might assume it's over and go to leave anyway which is what I would think.

I'm a big fan of the grand finale being cake and then I can get out of there.

I would end with more play time. Otherwise they eat and then are cooped up in a room waiting to leave and even if it's just for a few minutes they get restless so quickly when they're all wound up at a party. Id rather they go burn off some energy after cake.

Re: Birthday party opinions

I've been to both and my personal opinion is ending right after cake. I know it depends on place, but most parents wash the kid's hands and put on their shoes for pizza and cake. After that I'm done. Not that it's a big deal to take off the shoes again, but I find it easier to leave after cake since the "play area" is already closed and then go. Much harder to get a wound up kid all sugared up off the toys again to leave.

I would opt for the first way. Pizza and cake breaks it up a bit.

Re: Birthday party opinions

I'd end with pizza and cake only because it's impossible to pull my 2 year old from the gym stuff when it's time to go home otherwise! But I'd really be fine with either way.

You will have a lot less melt-downs and temper-tantrums if you end on cake. If they go back to play, I see a lot of parents having to deal with upset kids when it is time to leave.

Re: Birthday party opinions

Every party I've been to ends with pizza and cake. I think if the kids go back in it will be difficult to get them out to go home.
