Everyone has to criticize
I was just talking to Mil on the phone and she said I sounded tired I was like yeah I was working till midnight last night after I put dd to bed. I'm up for a huge promotion and she knows this. Dh is up for one as well She starts going off about how dd is neglected and family is more impt than work and how we put too many hours in. I wanted to flip out but didn't. I pick dd up from daycare at 530 every day and dd has no clue that after I put her to bed I stay up and work. I'm incredibly proud of Dh and I for working our asses off and making sure we spend quality time with dd. It just was really upsetting to hear someone I admire to say we are neglecting our kid. I work a lot but I do it when dd is at daycare or sleeping, as does Dh. We make sure dd feels loved. Im tired which is making me emotional but I'm sitting here almost in tears.
Dh called his mom and they had an argument as she was just with us for a month and saw our schedule and knows we always make time for dd.

Different generation.
They don't fully understand what it's like these days.

It's true--life was very different back then. But although our moms were more likely SAHM, I don't think my mom played with us all day. She set us free into the yard and called us in for dinner!!

Yes, don't feel bad. My mother used to tell me my kids wouldn't know who there mother was because I worked. Some days I wish they WOULDN'T know when they bug me to death lol.

That's really ballsy to say someone neglects their child, which I don't know you...but I'm positive you don't do. You and your dh are working your butts off to provide for her, pay your bills, etc. I'm sure your dd does not feel neglected and she feels incredibly loved. Not to mention you are seating a great example for her. Don't let her get to you.

Seriously, my mouth literally dropped when I read what she said to you. Ignore her, and honestly I would have no problem telling her exactly where she can put what she thinks.

Ughhh! That's extremely rude of her and super frustrating to hear. I'm in a similar situation, in that we pick up DS, spend time with him uninterrupted until he goes to bed and a good amount of nights, I then work in bed while him and DH sleep. It's just what I do to make sure I'm not at work late and missing time with him. Some people just don't get it but I understand how upsetting it is knowing all the work it takes us to make sure we don't miss time with him.
People are the worst.

People really have no idea... I remind myself that DH and I are being good role models for being working parents. We too work very hard to be successful at our jobs and it kills me when anyone suggests that wirk is overtaking my relationship with my child or interfering with raising him.
Tune out their ignorance. They are the ones who don't know any better.

WTF is wrong with people?!?! I mean, honestly, some of the things people have the balls to ask/say is beyond me. I'm so sorry your MIL said that to you. You and DH are working hard to give your DD the best life possible and that is nothing to be ashamed of/need to apologize for/explain -- its something to be incredibly proud of! You are setting a fantastic example for your daughter on how to be a great parent while working and having a career! You rock!

Thamls everyone. She called and left me a vm apologizing but I'm going to give hmyself a couple of days before I talk with her as I was really hurt and pissed.
