Thoughts on this? DH and I disagree RE: potty training
This week I just went back to work, I was home on maternity leave for 12 weeks. Keep in mind DH and I work wacky retail schedules. Late nights, weekends and days, no set schedule or anything. During my last week off I potty trained my DD. The only reason I even tried it is because she got on the potty all by herself and went (we use the big potty with a potty seat, she put the seat on herself and everything) so I said let's try 3 day method. Day 2 had her underwear and she peed on the floor like 10 times so I kind of gave up. Day 3 back in diapers, well she told me every time she had to pee and she went, was doing so good. Even went on the potty at her babysitters house and grandparents house. We puna glass jar in the bathroom and every time she went she got to put a penny in the jar she loved it. Well now that I'm back at work she has been a nightmare all around. Crying over everything, not listening, reverting to wanting to use a pacifier all the time (we were working on weaning her off that and she was only using it to sleep) but worst of all the potty she hasn't gone now on the potty in about three days she cries if I even mention the potty and nothing works not even candy. I told DH she probably has a hard time with me going back to work and we should just try again in a few months. He says she's lazy and shouldn't be able to watch any tv or use the iPad until she goes. He thinks I'm being too lenient and I think he's being too harsh. Any advice?

How old is she? That seems harsh what your husband is wanting. She has been through a lot with a new baby and now you going back to work. I would wait a bit until she settles into a new routine and is more comfortable.

I'm with you. I'd stop for now and try again in about a month and see how she does.

She is acting out because you are back at work. Any kind of change as a toddler is horrible for them. I think you also did too much at once. Potty, paci, in combo with you going back is a lot.
Work on one thing. But I would also punish the acting out.

I agree with most of this. It's a lot of change for a 2.5 year old. Potty, paci, not to mention a new baby. Plus you were home with her for 3 months and now you're back at work again and she's missing you. I wouldn't punish the acting out. It's not like she's hitting or doing bad things. Change is hard and she's reacting the way a 2.5 year old would.
I would wait it out. You don't want it to be a bad experienxe for her. That will only backfire

Thoughts on this? DH and I disagree RE: potty training
Sounds like she is very capable but just not ready. She is adjusting to a lot right now so I'd back off. She's looking for a little control and using the potty is one thing she controls and you can't force. The good thing is once she's ready it sounds like she'll train easily. I tried everything bribe and coaxing I could think of with dd and nothing worked. Once I backed off and she decided she was ready she trained in less than a day.

See and this is where I think parenting styles differ.
I do not let my son get away with anything. we are pretty strict even though we are very laid back about certain things.
If he acts out he gets put in time out or toys taken away etc. It doesn't matter what the reasoning behind it is. He still needs to learn that his behavior is not the correct reaction to a situation.
Example. I was in AU for 2 weeks. He had a hard time for part of it because I was not home. He acted out. While its perfectly fine to be sad mommy isn't home it is not ok for him to act out because of it. Even at a young age I believe they need to learn ways to handle their emotions.

seems like she is not ready plus there has been a lot going on, especially you going back to work. I would wait a little longer and try again. GL!

Re: Thoughts on this? DH and I disagree RE: potty training
The way I'm reading it, she was never really potty trained if in diapers day 3.
On top of that, a major lifestyle change will set a kid back. I wouldn't do anything big around a major event (birth or return to work). 1 week before is way too close.
Take a break & do it hard core in a few months.

I agree with this.
I agree with you. Stop for now and try again. Shes only 2.5, she has to not only share you with a baby, your now back at work. That's A LOT for a child to handle when they do not understand emotions. She doesn't understand what shes going through she does not deserve to be punished. THEN she will associate that potty with negative feelings and you don't want that either. I say give her a break and try again at a later time. Theres no rush. When shes ready shes ready.

Way too many changes at one time. New baby, you going back to work, paci and potty training...that would be overwhelming for any child. You should probably leave it be and try again when things settle down again.

I agree with everyone else. I'd leave it alone for a bit and revisit potty training when she has adjusted to you being back at work.

I dont think she is being lazy as your dh says. She is just having a rough time with you going back to work. I would let this blow over and then worry about potty training.
