European Wax Center?
Does anyone go there? How does it differ from the usual nail salon waxing? I need to get waxed a lot for a wedding and I am nervous about trying someplace new before the big weekend. What is the process there? What is it like from walking in to walking out? Any insight could really help calm my anxiety. Do they do it in a private room? The people who do the waxing are women, right? What nationality are the women? Do they use gloves or bare hands? Have they ever burnt you or have the creams given you a rash? Just wondering what the whole step by step process is there so I won't be scared!
ETA: Any patchogue users specifically -- any specialist recommendation?

European Wax Center?
Love the place. Here I go...
The receptionists by me are young and kind of snotty, but who cares Private room All women using gloves They use the strapless wax so it hardens on its on and they use the wax itself to take it off. It's less painful and I've neevr been burnt like with traditional wax. Just breathe and it's over before you know it.

Re: European Wax Center?
Everything the PP said above and they don't reuse sticks. Every time they put wax on the stick they toss it and grab another. Very clean. Feels cold in there when you first go in bc they keep it sterile. Believe me... after a few yanks you will be happy it's so cold bc you get hot fast.
It's fast, a lot less painful then other ways of waxing and very clean. I only get waxed there. When I go to nail salons and see all the sticks in the hot wax that has been there for who knows how long it grosses me out.

I have never been to the Patchogue location, but have been to a few locations and have never had a bad experience.
Now I try and use the same girl but when she isn't available I will go to whoever is. I would just make an appointment before hand. They do take walk-ins if it isn't busy but if you go during a busy time then you might not get in.

Re: European Wax Center?
OK I have done both - with strips and at EWC which does not use strips.
I'm a little picky about my waxing -- When I get waxed, I want her to get EVERYTHING I HAVE. I mean, I leave a landing strip but whatever I want waxed it had better be like a baby's assss when I'm done. Anyway, for years and years I have been going to Dee Dee at Daisy Spa in Centereach - recommended by the girls on here. She's amazing. She uses like a honey/sugar/organic wax kind of concoction that is heaven on my very very very sensitive skin. She uses the strips but what is great about her is that she is QUICK and efficient. I'm in there, done and out in like less than ten minutes. I have never, in over four years, had an ingrown hair. I have never had a problem. I have never been burned by Dee Dee.
She is closed Sunday and Monday and somewhat recently I absolutely needed a wax and my ONLY day was a Sunday. I noticed EWC - the Stony Brook location near my house. I even asked on here about it. It was good. It was fine, don't get me wrong. But, it made me really make sure that I carve out time to go to Dee Dee on a Saturday or whatever day she is open.
You go in, you are greeted by young girls at the desk - the place near me, the girls were very nice, and the place is very chic looking. I go back, private room, they wear gloves -- but then again, with Dee Dee it is a private room and gloves too so I'm kind of used to this.
The wax is like a thick globby kind of thing and BRIGHT BRIGHT blue -- like a cobalt blue. It is a hard bee's wax, so they told me. I thought that was interesting. She puts it on, it HARDENS, and then she literally peels it and rips it off in chunks. The pain, to me, was similar -- I mean, was one a 7 and one a 5 on a scale of 1-10?? I don't know -- it was around the same, and I have a high tolerance so I just bring something to squeeze and focus on that so that I have somewhere to displace all that energy. Works great. Mind over matter.
Anyway, afterwards they sold me this stuff I "had to have" -- they told me. It was to prevent ingrown hairs and a scrub to make the hair grow back thinner and whatever. I was like I'll give it a try. Well, I got my first ingrown hair ever lol. Great. And I got a few like razor bump pimple type of irritation... I guess my body was like biitch go back to Dee Dee, if it aint broke don't fix it!
Was the wax fine? Yes. It did the trick. I'm sure after time I wouldn't get the hairs and irritation - I'm sure my skin would get used to it but I never had any of that from day one with Dee Dee.
My gripe: it takes longer than with Dee Dee. So, I don't even care if the pain is a five out of ten or a ten out of ten --- if it is FAST and over with quick, and temporary, then I can handle ANY pain. So, just speed it up, KWIM?? So I felt like the pain DURING THE RIPPING was less than Dee Dee, slightly, but the ripping takes so much longer so I'm in a slightly decreased level of pain for a longer period of time -- no bueno, KWIM?
And here's my biggest peeve: GET EVERYTHING. I mean, everything. Dee Dee - it's like I could pose for Playboy after being waxed by her. Get every flipping nook and cranny. It is fantastic. So, for me, yeah I'm sticking with her.
I don't think you can "go wrong" either way but I give my highest recommendation to Daisy Spa and I'll never stray again. The grass is not greener lol even if they are open on a Sunday.

NO comparison to a nail salon. None. Extremely sanitary, professional and skilled.

It depends on where you go - if you're going to a cheap nail salon, you will definitely notice a difference. Much cleaner, but they definitely try the hard sell on their products & membership. If you go for professional waxing with certifications, I think it's comparable.
Just needed to add this to the thread for posterity: http://www.lifamilies.com/chat/topic.aspx?&P=1&ID=557597

Re: European Wax Center?
I go to a NJ location and am on my third person there( 1 left and 1 moved to another location). The girl I use really get every last hair. I mean she is digging around, lol.
I don't notice the wax getting hard. It can still roll into a ball when it's done. I get everything wax... Front and back and am done in less than 15 minutes.

Best post ever.
I have yet to get a bikini wax but there's a EWC opening 2 minutes from me and I think I'm going to try it.

Thanks everyone! I went and loved it. I am almost so embarrassed that I haven't been to a place like that before... it makes me feel so gross about my past waxings lol
