Speech Therapy
Can anyone recommend a speech therapist they pay out of pocket in Nassau. Im specifically in the Floral Park/NHP area, but willing to travel.
DO NOT want to go through EI.

Adelphi in Garden City offers speech services, my coworker used them when her daughter aged out of EI and was happy w/ them.

Do you know if they take infant/toddlers? My son is 20 months. TIa!!!

I know they will want to do an evaluation first which can be a lot of money. They do accept some insurance or you can submit yourself.

Yes they should. They offer individual and group therapy as well. I was going to sign up my son for their Tot Talk program but they only had classes during the week which didn't work for me (I work FT).

Just curious, how would i know if my soon to be two year old needs speech therapy? I noticed he replaces the 'ph' sound with a 'g' - such as saying words like phone. I just chalked it up to his age though but now i am curious.

Speech Therapy
I am reaching out for therapy because my soon to be 20 month old only has about 10 words. I want to get him talking more. I wouldn't be concerned with pronunciation yet, but that is just me.

My son is receiving speech therapy, but he wasn't talking at all and wasn't even trying to imitate. My friend's son was trying to talk but everything would come out either garbled or the sounds weren't correct. She got him evaluated and he qualified because he had weak mouth muscle tone, so he physically couldn't make the sounds.
Is that the only sound he's getting wrong or are there others? Does he excessively drool, keep his mouth open in a resting position? Does he have a hard time eating?

That's pretty normal for a two year old. I'd be more concerned if he had a limited vocabulary, no gestures,doesn't seem to understand what you say to him, and doesn't attempt to imitate words (at least sometimes).
