Frozen BM

Does anyone know how long frozen BM is good for? Most things I have read says 6 mths - however my milk storage bags say up to 12 months. I have several bags from October and wondering if I should just toss. Thoughts?

ETA: I keep it stored in a separate freezer

Re: Frozen BM

I believe it's 6 months in a standard freezer, 12 months in a deep freezer.

Frozen BM

I always followed the 3-4 rule. Fresh milk 3-4 hours at room temp, 3-4 days in the fridge and 3-4 months in the freezer. If you keep the milk in a deep freezer or the back of a regular freezer that doesn't get opened and closed too much, I believe it lasts longer.

I've always liked the Kelly mom website as a BF/BM resource.

Frozen BM

I've used it up to nine months later in the regular freezer.

Once you defrost it just smell it. you'll know if it's bad!

Re: Frozen BM

The nurses in the NICU always told me one year in a deep freezer which is what I went by. Baby won't drink it if it's bad, and you'll know by smell as a pp said.

At least 6 months in a regular freezer. Smell it and you will 100% know if it's bad. It will smell like sour, disgusting milk if its bad.

Also room temperature is at least 6 hours out. Fridge is about 5-6 days.
